food journaling

I am 13 months out and I journal everyday here on OH. (sometimes on myfitnesspal or sparkpeople just to compare)   I have ALWAYS kept a food journal.  I have dieted (since 7th grade) like SO many of us and that is what "they" tell you to do.
Journaling keeps me honest and on track.  Of course I usually get more carbs than I should, but I keep trying.  I know by my food journal when I need to cut back for a couple of days and it really helps me.

I don't log my food anymore either.  I'm up a few lbs (still below goal) and finding myself going to food when I'm bored AND of course it isn't the best choices.  Time to grocery shop and start focusing again with the holidays here I don't want to lose control.

This is very ironic.  I was just sitting here thinking how I have gotten away from journaling since Tuesday of last week and I have consumed so many carbs and got away from drinking my water and getting in my exercise.  I make excuses every day for why I cant journal today and I am intentionally staying away from the scale because I feel it will not be good.  I need to get back on track and I need to be held accountable.

count me in.  As of right now the tracking starts again.

Wonderful!  I am great at making excuses but the main reason I haven't been doing it is simply because I don't feel like it.  It doesn't really take that much time, it's not really that hard to find the nutritional info for most items, it doesn't matter that I am no good at math because I own a calculator, and sure, it would be nice if I made a nice spreadsheet to track it all on but I can certainly start doing it without the spreadsheet, I don't have to wait until I make one.  There is no good reason I can't do it, I just have been choosing not to.  But I want to make better choices now.

Since day one I created a menu plan with many choices for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Snacks. I just choose a meal I want to eat. I have already tallied the calories and protein grams for each meal so I know what I am consuming on a daily basis. I will always live like this because it keeps me on track and accountable.

I do more like you now. I check in at intervals to see where I am. Calories, protein and carbs are sort of second nature to me (both because of my food obsession and as a food blogger) so I am pretty accurate with my estimations. What I have to stay vigilant about is MEASURING my food.

Tracking my food makes me be vigilant about measuring my food.  I want to be accurate on my tracking so I make sure I measure.  Only thing then is that tracking makes me want to FINISH my food too because I know how many calories/protein, etc is in what I measured so then I feel like if I don't finish then I won't be accurate with the tracking.. gahh!  Of course the logical thing to do is to measure out maybe half of what I was planning to eat and then re-evaluate if I'm still hungry.

I just kind of estimate if I don't eat a whole portion.  I mean, I can tell by looking at the amount left on my plate is half of what I started with or 25% of what I started with or what.  I can get close enough that way.

Hello All,

I am 9 months out and had a horrible time with protein intake.  I too would start journaling then stop after a couple of days.  I am using myfitnesspal.com to help me.  It allows me to put in the amount of protein, carbs, and fat I want to have each day.  It also keeps track of exercise!!!  The cool thing is there is an app for it.  It makes things a lot easier for me since I am not in front of a computer all day, but my phone is glued to me.

It is really easy to use, and any and every thing you can think of as far as food is already in there system.  You don't have to keep wrappers or boxes to input nutrional information.  Unless you add your own recipe - even then, the ingredients you use are probably already in there.

If anyone decides to use it my name on there is freeme31...hope to see you there!
