I avoid taking anything that is in a pill right now because I can't stand the taste of it crushed up. I am 4 weeks and 2 days out. Please advise! Thanks :)

The ASMBS says you can swallow them as soon as you can tolerate it.  I was able to tolerate swallowing pills about 12 hours after my operation.  I don't know if you can tolerate it, though.  The only way to know is to try it.

Thanks, Kelly. I guess I can probably tolerate it now.. I have been taking a small gelcal biotin for about 2 weeks now. My next question is.. how will I know I am absorbing it?

You'll know you are absorbing the vitamins when you get labs done.  For medication, I guess it depends on the med.  For some meds, blood tests can see how much you are absorbing.  With some meds, you'll know by how you feel.  For instance, I take Vicodin for back pain and I know I'm absorbing it because my back feels better and because I get kind of "floaty" when I take it.

I also took pills in the hospital. When i was a bit nervous about it my nurse told me the new stomach isn't as fragile as we think and almost everyone does fine swallowing pills. I knew I absorbed it because what I took was vicodin and the pain went away

I laugh now when I look back. My surgeon advised chewable multivitamins until on soft foods, but prescribed vicadin for pain.

I was given pain meds in pill form in the hospital the day after surgery.  My surgeon recommended chewable vitamins for the first 3 months.  It is helpful since the pouch is small and there are a lot of vitamins and minerals to take.  So  you can do either as soon as you are comfortable.  I preferred chewables.
