NSV labs

I had a blood draw and all of my labs were great with the exception of my vitamin D :( Dr is putting me on 8000units daily rather than 50,000units once a week. She also says I need to increase my calcium intake, adding an extra dose daily. She showed me how having this surgery basically cured all of my comorbidities...high bp, diabetes (a1c was 5.6)...I think it has also helped my depression...not all of it, but to a degree. I know for a fact I was depressed partly due to my weight. (I started on antidepressants when my son died...that's the other part)...anyway, was an excellent doctor appointment.

Check carefully the Vit D because I am pretty sure that a D script is for D2 and we don't absorb that. Vitalady has a 50k D3 you might want to check out.

Yeah, the only D you can get by prescription is D2.  Even if the doc writes you a script for D3, the pharmacist will give you D2.  Legally, they are allowed to make that substitution.

Gee I wish they had an emoticon for someone whistling AND clapping.

Good to hear!

You won't absorb calcium well if your vitamin D is lower than 80.

Is the 8000 IU D3?  Not D2?  The prescription 50,000 IU they often like to prescribe once a week is D2 and it's in oil, so we don't absorb it well at all.

Glad to hear all your other labs were great.

Thank you everyone and Kelly, thanks so much. I had no idea about the absorbtion and that once a week med being oil. I'll have to call the dr tomorrow and talk to her about it...otherwise, I do have an appointment with my surgeon next week, that would probably be the best person to ask. Thanks a lot! I also had/have no idea about the D2 or 3...I appreciate the help.
