Question of My fitness Pal
I just joined it because it seems a popular tool. I added my intake today and it's telling me I'm not eating enough. (I am for where I am) It also tells me how much protein and carbs I should be getting. Is there a way to change the settings to a more bariatric friendly setting.
(It also adds calories to my total by my workouts) Can I stop it doing that too. If I was listening to it as it is set up now, I'd be eating about 15-1600 calories and I'm only 4 months out.

Yes there is but you have to do it from their web site and not through smartphone or iPad app. If you go to their website and login, you can adjust your goals (calories, nutrients etc).
Haven't found a way to not have the total adjusted for exercise. So what I do is just remember what calories goal I've set for myself and ignore what I've earned from exercise (unless I'm truly ravenous).

It takes some practice. I stopped adding my exercise to it because it kept adding back in calories. My nutritionist said that I shouldn't eat back the calories I burn through exercise until I get to maintenance. I just make a mental note that I did get my exercise in for the day.
You can adjust your goals for intake. On your homepage, there is a tab under 'My Home' that says 'Goals'. It's set by default for your height, weight, activity level etc. If you click change goals, it gives you the option to have the site make your goals and for you to make your own. If you select make your own, there you can put in your calories and adjust your protein, carb and fat percentages of those calories. It will still say you are in starvation mode, but as long as you are following your clinic's rules, you are doing okay.
Hope that helps!

Just cos it says you can eat 1600 calories because you exercised, doesn't mean you HAVE to!!!! If you know you should be eating 1200 calories per day, then eat 1200 calories per day and any exercise is bonus calories for loss!
Alter the nutrition manually - it says I should be getting 45g of protein if I don't change it and says I should eat like 160g carbs - NOT going to happen!
I aim for 80-100g protein and don't worry too much past that - if I eat THAT much protein my carbs are generally neglible in comparison - just because I physically can't eat much more ...

The exercise specialist at my clinic recommended the Realize band's counter because I guess it doesn't do some of the things that myfitnesspal does. However,I think you have to have had the band in order to use it...I actually don't know because I've never bothered to try it.
I'm glad to know that things can be my goals can be changed.
