What's your exercise goal?

Just curious...

I know everyone is different, but I'm trying to decide what a "good" amount of time to spend in the gym is. What's your exercise goal? How many minutes per week do you devote to burning calories?

I originally intended to do 30 minutes a day/ 5 days a week, but as I've gotten into my routine, it's worked out to be 90 minutes a day/ 3 days a week. A little more than an hour of this is devoted to cardio (elliptical, treadmill) and the rest I do some light weight training focusing mainly on my upper body.

What do you guys think? Should I be doing more? Less? Or am I spending enough time at the gym?

Hey girlie how are you!! I am sorry I don't have any answers for you, but I am having the same worry, so I am glad you posted this! I am hoping that I am getting in enough exercise as well! I am anxious to see what everybody tells you!

I think you are doing great. I workout 6 days a week for 2 hours a day but haven't had surgery yet. I will hope to work out the same after surgery. I do cardio daily and classes daily but on tues thur sat I do weight lifting class too.
Your body needs at least a day of rest between weight training.
Sounds like you have a great plan. Ask a trainer in the gym to do a workout plan for you maybe?

My goal is to stick with my current schedule of an hour a day for as many days that I can go. DH has free membership to the college gym that he graduated from and it includes spouses. I warm up with the recumbent bike for 20 minutes then weight machines for the rest of the time. It has helped up my stamina and trim my butt, waist, and thighs. I thought it would be really intimidating to exercise with a lot of college boys (it's a all men school ) but it is better than a lot of yuppie females. LOL

In minutes?

Hmmmm about 800, or.about 2-3 hours a day.

I don't dedicate hours to burning calories though. In my opinion this is the wrong approach to am exercise plan. I have adopted a arthritic lifestyle and participate I races. So my gym time is spent training.

My goal is to run in a 5K by this winter.  I am almost 6 months out, and go to the gym 3- 5 days a week.  I have had a lousy head cold that has set me back but I'm determined to run in one.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to start training for that?
