Any sushi eaters here?
I am about 12 weeks postoperative and I have been cleared by my dr and nut to eat whatever, but keep protein first. I had sushi for the first time last week and it was delicious!!! Now I have never been a seafood eater, but I had a spicy tuna roll and it was fantastic. So I am just wondering what kind of sushi do you guys order usually? The roll I ordered had rice so it is higher in carbs than I would like so I was just wondering if there are any alternatives or better choices. Thanks :)
I hated sushi pre-op....now, I can't get enough! I love it, but can only eat about 5 pieces...then I'm full.
My fave is spicy tuna roll, and I also like Alaskan roll. Really any roll with raw fish and I'm in.
Negiri is just a piece of raw fish on top of rice....so you get more fish to rice ratio....but you REALLY got to like the raw fish taste....
Try different rolls and you'll find some faves. I do not like the cooked rolls...especially the ones with "tempura" anything.

Thanks so much for the advice!! I am going to have try sashimi. I am definitely more adventurous now fr some reason. I have got did protein ideas other than chicken lol. Unfortunately I am allergic to avocados though so I don't think that would work for me. I think I'll just tell them at my local sushi place that I am new to the sushi world and I'm trying to avoid carbs and see what they suggest. I can only eat 3 pieces max, but I definitely enjoy those 3 pieces lol

Hand rolls can be rice free (they look like seaweed cones), sushi can be wrapped in cucumber or soy paper too. I'm only just shy of 2 weeks post op but I snuck a piece of tuna sashimi Sunday. Tuna is ok'd by my nut but not raw fish so it was a no no but delightfully sinful and packed with protein!

My favorites are asparagus rolls and this...thing...that my favorite sushi chef makes off-menu. He calls it Tofuto. It's salmon, wrapped around a green olive, stuffed into a baked tofu shell and drizzled in sriracha. Ohmigosh. To die for.

I love Japanese food and found that it really worked well after Rny. Early out Miso soup was nice and later it made a good liquid before eating. Also edamae (or soy beans) are salty yummy protein.
I would ask the chef to make my rolls light on the rice and I kinda ate around some of the rice
The sad thing is no more sushi for me. It's not on my immunosuppressed diet
