I was cleared at my 1 week check up to resume all activities as tolerated.  So on day 9 I went back to the gym and enjoyed a Zumba class and then yesterday I went on the elliptical for 20min and treadmill for 20min it felt great!

At one week oh I hope I can do that. I am planning for Jan 2013 to do the Disney Full Marathon. I did a half time to conquer my full! I need o start training June 18 that will be 1 month out of my surgery. I plan on using the elliptical for the first 3/4 weeks because I am scared running might hurt me LOL. Thanks for the great news!!!!! I will ask my dr too but I believe he said 1 week to in our meeting about work and working out lightly as much as I could handle too.

PLEASE be careful.  There was a lady at my surgeons office that had surgery the same day that I did...she ended up BACK in the hospital because at 1 week out she ripped her internal stitches walking on the treadmill.  Most exercise equipment (treadmill and elliptical) cause you to isolate your abdominal muscles and if you are not careful, you can and will rip something and according to this lady it was hellish and much more painful that the original surgery.

While most doctors will tell you to resume activity as tolerated, but be careful of the exercise equipment, especially the motorized equipment and things that cause you to have to engage your core muscles.

I avoided the gym until I was about 6 weeks out and I got my exercise via walking.  I felt that was the safest thing because I wanted to make sure I was COMPLETELY healed and able to go into the gym hitting it HARD which I did and I haven't looked back.

I was told it was ok to use the elliptical but not to use the arms but use the stationary handles so as not to over use the abdominal muscles like Hillery said.

I started back at 2 weeks but my surgeon told me to switch to walking in case I'd. Get a hernia. I resumed at 6 weeks post op per his orders.

My doc only let me do walking for 4 weeks.  He said I could do dancing and other cardio as long as I took it easy.  I was officially cleared for the elliptical after 4 weeks but again told to not overdo it.

I was specifically told no bike and nothing that works the abs until at least 6 weeks and preferably 8 weeks out.

I can start doing weights after 6 weeks but was cautioned not to go crazy (tough for me since I want to do my circuit again).
