Any suggestions on what I will tell them??

I told my 7 year old that I was having a surgery to help me lose weight and be healthier. I told her I would be gone a couple of days, but that her father, brother, and uncle would be there to care for her. She was fine with it.

I told my six year old that I was going to the hospital to have surgery to get healthier.  But her brother had surgery when she was 5 so she was familiar with the idea.  My then 2 year old I didn't say anything to other then mommy was gone a few days.

I don't think you have to give specific details, but i think kids should have a general idea of what is going on, heaven forbid something happen.

I told my 5 year old I was having surgery and the doctor was going to help me feel better. When I came home I asked if he wanted to see where the doctor fixed me and showed him my incisions. He seemed really relieved and was very protective and diligent to make sure my "baby belly" was ok.

My kids were younger 4 & 5 , I told them I was running the house and fell and got a boo boo on my tummy .... soooo no running in the house ....(2 for the  price of one) and that I will be home soon, and I called them and spoke to them on the phone and they drew pictures for me..it was fine...when I got home I said my boo boo is healing and they have to be gentile and that for easter I didnt want candy because I want to be skinny and healthy  so I can run around and play with them time will fly, they will be busy with school, I think we worry more than they do.

with every surgery I've ever had (several) I told my kids the what and why because my counselor told me it was better for them to know because their minds could come up with far worse things thanks to society. I didn't want them to think I was sick or had cancer or was going to die. I explained the surgeries simply so they could understand and made sure I called them as soon I was awake enough to.

My kids are older now 12,13,21,23 they all know. My 13 and 21 year olds are nervous but the doctor is speaking to them at my pre op visit to reassure them.
