Gastric Bypass and successful pregnancy! ;-)
Hey all,
I had my RNY July 2010 and started at 343 pounds, 333 date of surgery. I am almost two years post op and am 170 pounds and 4.5 months pregnant with my first baby. My husband and I are almost 30, and we are estatic! If I had tried to get pregnant before getting healthy, my pregnancy would have been a train wreck. I was overweight, on 14 prescription meds, and my diabetes was out of control. I had dangerously high blood pressure and was going to die prematurely. This surgery changed my life. Yes, it is hard work and if you go back to your previous lifestyle, you will ultimately undo what your surgeon did. But, if you stick with your program and persevere, you will succeed.
I have gained 1 pound since being pregnant, but my OB is happy with that since I am not exactly tiny still (still 170!). The baby looks amazing and is growing right on track. I have more energy now at almost 5 months pregnant than I did when I was 300+ pounds and I am so happy.
I just wanted to encourage all those who are having difficulties or trying to decide if the risks of surgery are "worth" it. They were for me, and bc of this life changing surgery, I am finally getting my precious baby.

I was in the same boat before my surgery in 2003 I weighed 450 was on all the meds for the bp, cholesterol, diabetes and was told at 23 I would never have children. I had surgery in October 2003 and had lost 290 lbs by July 2004. I kept the weight off for 5 years. At 30 I got pregnant with my first baby!
