Feeling like a slow loser...hate to complain...but...

I had A revision from lap-band to RNY on Feb 21.  I lost 14 pounds on my two week pre-surg diet and 25 since surgery.  On average I a getting about 70 grams of protein a day usually between 700 and 800 calories a day.  I have been struggling to get the excessive in everyday, but I get in at least a half hour every day.

Anything I'm doing wrong?  Am I just being silly and I should be happy with my loss?  I just feel like I am eating so much more than I did pre-surgery because I can eat healthier choices without having pain or needing to vomit.  Before I would go all day eating nothing and then eat a pint of ice-cream at night.  I am happy to be eating healthier and that is what really matters, but my scale is really annoying me right now.

Thanks for listening to me whine

Here are my honest thoughts.

You seem to be losing a bit slower than most people do.  That seems to be kind of common with revisions from the band.  i'm not sure why.  My guess would be that your eating patterns from the past may have affected your metabolism; if you used to go all day without eating and then eat one meal at night, that can slow the metabolism.  I'm guessing though, that's not a scientific answer.

It sounds like you're doing everything you should be doing.  I don't think you're being silly, but I do think you should be happy with your loss.  I would talk to your surgeon and your dietician to see if they have any advice about how you might speed your weight loss up a bit, but if this is just the way you are going to lose, then I would try not to get on the scale too often and try to accept things the way they go.  I know people often feel like there is a deadline by which time they have to lose all their weight, but that's really not true.  I lost until about 18 months out, at which time I actually had to make an effort to eat more so I would stop losing.  And I'm not that unique.

Forty lbs in approx. two months is not bad. I would be very happy with that. I have averaged 13 lbs a month and think the rate is probably better than a rapid loss...for me.
My physical fitness trainer always said, to lose weight you need plenty of sleep, no carbonated beverages, no caffeine, portion (food) control, and lots of exercise. If you can afford a gym membership where the trainers are professionals you will benefit from their help. It has been true for me. But don't dwell on the pounds so much. Watch your measurements and sizes go down.

Your story is similar to mine.  I really wonder if the body is adjusting to band fiasco because I could eat one day and then throw up the next two.  I lost 80 and then gained 25 over the holidays while the band was deflated.   I truly believe the RNY will work as long as I do as I'm suppose to.  Thus, when the the doubts start creeping in ... I remind myself that I am eating correctly.   My exercise level isn't up to what I read some are doing so this has a bearing.   I am very happy with how much better I feel with the band removed.  No more pain!  I weigh once a week and haven't lost in 2 wks so I am going to start weighing every 2 wks.

You are about 6wks out?
I was not a revision and at my 6wk check I'd lost 13lbs.
Keep working hard at the plan and do what you can for movement / exercise.

Revision on 03/21/12

Hi Christine,

Don't feel too bad and don't give up.  I too am a revision patient (band-RNY), had my surgery
on 032112.... I gained 9 lbs after my surgery, and have only lost 20 lbs + the 9lb gain and I
am six weeks out.  I know it is hard not to compare myself to others but like everybody says
as long as we are sticking to the plan and exercising it will all work out the same in the long
run.

Take care

Audrey

Everyone is different.  Don't get discouraged.  I had RNY 3/6.  I feel like a slow loser compared to some post, but I know I am doing what I am supposed to do.  Getting my vits in, drinking plenty of water, walking 3 miles or so daily, following NUT meal plan.  That is all I can do.  My weight loss post surgery (2 months) is 33 pounds.  Not massive compared to some, but more than I would have lost without this tool.  It will happen for you, keep the faith!
