Anyone else completely protein shake free?

I'll add that I just look at protein shakes the way I look at any other food.  They aren't better than other foods high in protein, they aren't worse.  It's more a matter of personal preference.  I get kind of confused by the debate about whether or not RNY patients should use protein shakes.  We don't debate about whether or not we have to eat chicken or should never eat chicken.  What matters is that we get our protein.  In the beginning, it's usually easiest to get it with shakes.  Later on, if you like shakes, then drink them.  If you don't like them, get your protein from something else.

I dont' "need" protein shakes OR protein bars, I can get over 80g generally without them... but I love them so I usually have one of each on a fairly regular (daily) basis

I've been shake free since 6 wks post op. i eat bars or meat. I really hate the shakes!

I haven't had a shake since liquids and have never eaten a protein bar.   I like to eat as cleanly as possible and they're just too full of artificial crap for me to feel happy drinking/eating them.  

I have always liked my food so can't imagine substituting something delicious for something that always made me gag!

Like Kelly, I easily get the minimum amount of protein from food (have been able to since about 6 months post-op), but I choose to add protein powder to my morning hot chocolate most days, or to occasionally have a RTD protein water or shake, just to get some extra protein and so I do not have to actually count my protein throughout the day.

Although I found some powders that I could tolerate, I never found any protein shake recipes that were worth the time it took to make them, and the only protein supplements I really like are the Cytomax RTDs (all 3 flavors), the Oh Yeah RTD banana or chocolate, and -- only for mixing in my SF hot chocolate -- the Unjury unflavored or Chocolate Splendor, and the Syntrax vanilla bean torte.

i don't have to use protein drinks but I do because I like to make my own shakes in the  morning with a bunch of supplements for a healthy drink.  I have not used any protein drink or protein bars other than a medical grade whey protein since surgery.  I eat whole organic food.  I could get all of my protein in through food but enjoy my shake and it is easy in the morning.  I count it as a breakfast.  I get 90 grams of protein in a day.  I eat 3 meals plus shake.  I do a lot of greek yogurt.  I am 7 months out.

I've never done protein shakes.  I was impossible to find one I could swallow.  For the first 3-4 weeks, I did not get enough protein.  Now at 6 weeks out, I get my required amount, between 65-80g per day from cheese, eggs, and crock pot cooked poultry.  I can't drink milk for some reason, doesn't sit well, and I can't tolerate greasy meat like ground beef.  I tried ground bison and it was too greasy and ground lamb didn't work well either.  Pork is iffy and depends on the day and the way it is cooked.

I have an Atkins shake almost every day because I love them, and it's a quick, easy way to get calories into me when I'm on the go.

But as far as needing to supplement, no. I am usually between 60-80g of protein daily. I do eat a lot of bars, though. I usually have some kind of bar (Pure Protein, Quest, Atkins) as a snack or small meal every day.

I actually NEVER drank the shakes...They made me sick from day 1, the first 2 weeks were rough but I adapted with yougurts, eggs, and cheeses. Now I get my protien from all my foods!
