I take 1500 mg daily, as recommended by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.  Make sure you're using calcium citrate, not carbonate.

1920 mg in citrate form daily.  My pills are 640 for two, I take two of them three times a day to meet the ASMBS daily minimum recommendations.  That way, even with the absorption limitations, I am meeting at least 1500mg.

And we're not supposed to take them to close to our other supplements nor meals, correct?

We are supposed to take them at least two hours away from iron, because calcium blocks the absorption of iron.  You can take it with meals if you want and with any other supplements.  I take my first dose of calcium with my multi, D3, vitamin A and zinc, and take my second dose with my other multi and my magnesium oxide.
