I do Zumba and I love it. I dont just stick with machines because they limit how you can move. When I go to the gym I start out on the ellipitical, then go to the treadmill and fast pace walk, then run then walk on and off for 15 minutes or so. Then I go do Zumba, if it is just a cardio day. Other days I get on machines and work out  my abs (as the cardio stuff gets my legs) and I work out my arms. I am about to start on buns because I have lost so much there my tailbone is sensitive and hurts daily.

Try something that gets you moving more than stationary machines though, it will help. :)

Some trainers can develop a plan for you and you do it on your own. You might have to look online to make sure you have proper form. I mix it up between running and elliptical.

In order to reap the most benefit from cardio exercise, it's best to mix it up. Everything I've read, says a mixture of different cardio/aerobic exercises, plus weight/strength training plus stretching is the best way to get fit, lose weight, and shape your entire body.

Post Op, I started just walking (outside and treadmill), but now I do walking (high incline if on the treadmill), running, any machine (spin bike, elliptical, stairmill, rower). I also do 30 day shred DVD, step classes, Zumba classes, yoga, pilates, hiking, kayaking and whatever else I feel up to. My goal is to get some form of activity/exercise 6 days a week; and I'm fairly good at doing that. But it stays fresh for me, because I'm always trying new things or doing something different. Whatever I do, I know it has to be sustainable for the rest of my life.

Our bodies are wonderful at adapting to exercise and unless you mix it up, your body will conserve energy instead of use it because it's grown accustomed to the one thing you do.

There's a tremendous amount of information on line. I'd suggest starting perhaps at livestrong.com

But most important, be active, stay active, enjoy what you do, and do what you enjoy.

i tend to stick to the bike because i can multi-task the best on it, and i get too bored if i'm not mutli-tasking lol. i try and throw the elliptical in once a week, and try to make it to my gym's zumba classes (once i start getting a monthly mta pass i'll have more options since i can go to the any of the gyms, but i don't use it enough right now), i walk a lot (but anyone living in the city does unless you cab it everywhere or are crazy enough to drive a car). i was doing some ab exercises i found in glamour that i liked a few times a week but i can't find the tear sheet since i moved things around in my apt (i guess i could pull it up on my ipad though). i love stretching (helps with the knots in my back i get all the time too). i know i should start strength training, i just hate it! my old roommate left some hand weights here so i should really pick those up while i'm watching tv...

first off... I wouldn't go by what the machine says you are burning in calories unless maybe you are wearing a heart rate monitor.
I would highly recommend 2 things - change up your workout so that you don't get bored and so your body doesn't get accustomed to it.
Also, as you are able add in a little strength training. Cardio burns calories while you are working, but if you build muscle that muscle burns calories all day long.
