Arctic Zero "Ice Cream"

I just learned about this product today and wanted to know if anyone had tried it? It seems too good to be true. Ice cream that has low sugar, fat, calories, and even a little protein. Now the real question is..how does it taste? I was never a huge ice cream or dairy fan for that matter because of being lactose intolerant even prior to surgery, but am thinking this might be a not-so-bad-for-you once in awhile treat if I'm craving something sweet. Would enjoy hearing others thoughts on it if they've tried it.

As far as I am concerned, it is nothing to get excited about. It has a very weak flavor, and at a little over $5.00 for a pint, I did not feel it is worth it.

It is like lightly flavored ice milk. Not the least bit creamy and the only way I could eat any of the one I bought was to put SF hot fudge sauce on it, so I threw it out. SF Popsicles are a hell of a lot cheaper, have more flavor, and are about the same texture. Waaaay too expensive for the quality of the product...

I have had it and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it.  With me it is all a matter of developing taste for healthier alternatives i.e. I substituted rice for quinoa and just love it ... made paella with it yesterday.

Back to arctic zero .... the vanilla flavor is my favorite  however I like making my own protein ice cream which is delicious.... The first time I had an arctic zero was after running a 10K ... I usually have half of an orange or 1/2 of a banana shortly after a run ...  one of our running partners treated my daughter and I to one of these at a health food store downtown and I loved it ... of course it does not have the rich creamy sugary taste of regular ice cream but then I don't have a problem with substitutes which while not offering the richness and calories give me an alternative... again that is me ... I love maintaining my weight where it is and I love having a body to fit my small bone structure that I had for over 25 years before packing on the weight which I intend to keep off... 203 pounds gone for-EVER for me LOL...

The calorie count is an approximation and can be misleading as it is on several items on the market this day ... it is not really 150 cals per pint but then I find it very hard to eat a whole pint of this in one sitting and won't even try as I found it very filling.. I tried the vanilla flavor and my daughter had the chocolate mint which I did not care too much about as I don't like mint and chocolate mixed together and not much of a chocolate fan although I love my version of chocolate protein brownies...

I love love love the trade off and developing a liking for different tastes/textures along the way.  Someone on here shared an awesome alternative to cheesecake ... while it was not the same thing it was a delicious alternative to which I added extra protein.. my DH and my DD loved it ... however my son thought it was nasty and it did not taste like real cheesecake -- I had to remind him that there was a real cheesecake in the freezer for HIM ... however the rest of us who are watching what we are eating are enjoying our cheesecake alternative and it was good ....  My son can eat an entire house and not gain an ounce go figure ... my DH is on a renal/diabetic diet for life with his kidney transplant and type I diabetes and my DD manages her weight by diet/exercise....  it is a win.win. situation for all... ALTERNATIVE ROCK IMO...

I think Nik also posted some info that an independent lab tested the ice cream and the colories were much higher - so if it too good to be true.

I thought it was AWFUL.  In fact, I returned it to the store and they gave me a refund.  SF fudgesicles or frozen pops are a much better option, in my opinion.

I have not tried the artic zero, but I did buy the Eddy's no sugar added vanilla ice cream. It has 3gms sugar and another 4 of sugar alcohol, so its not ideal but it tastes good if you are going to have an occasional few bites of a treat. I tried mixing a little with an unflavored protein mix and milk to make a shake because I HATE the fake flavored mixes. It was DEFINITELY better, but felt too decadent, I only drank a small amount because I felt guilty.

I loved it UNTIL the Today Show did a piece on the real nutritional info on ice creams. They lab tested it and found it had 65% MORE calories than the nutrition label said. The law allows for a margin of error of a whopping 20% but that was just ridiculous.

The trust was lost. I don't partake anymore.

I actually liked the flavors I tried (chocolate PB & strawberry) but having a hard time finding it lately. Definately not creamy but kinda equivalent to watery ice milk. It may be more economically and nutritionally better to buy an ice cream maker and make your own protein ice cream. And I'll probably not buy this very often in the future if they're being misleading on their actual calorie counts (seriously 65% off??? That's not margin of error, that's just plain lying!)
