A Poll: Still needing CPAP post op?

I was wondering how many pre-ops that needed CPAP still need it post-op. If you were able to stop using it, how soon after your surgery did it take and how much weight had you lost, or at what weight were you able to give it up.

I despised mine, so I haven't used mine since surgery.  Mine was programmed fairly low, and I was told not to use it for at least two weeks after surgery.  By then I had lost @20 lbs and it seemed that was enough to be able to go without my machine.  My husband is my gauge on that, the only time I would put it on was when he woke me up and told me to, and he hasn't asked.

I wish my doctor would tell me that. I don't think I need it anymore but I'm afraid that I will need another sleep study in order to get rid of the darn thing. I don't really despise it, but after losing so much weight, the contour of my face has changed and its hard to find a good fitting mask that is comfortable.

I loved my CPAP - the small white noise it put out was soothing to me.  HOWEVER, last night was my first night without it and I slept great!!!  My husband says I don't snore at all anymore, which is a HUGE improvement because I could wake up freaking China with my snoring before.  I'm 7 weeks post op.

It really is!!!  I was very excited :-)  So nice to not have something strapped around my head at night and having to adjust the tubing!!!

My pre-op sleep study definately qualified me for a CPAP but the dr told me to do a follow-up after I lost a significant amount of weight to see if I really needed it - went from moderate apnea to mild(almost subclinical) apnea and the dr agreed that I probably dodged the bullet!

I had sleep apnea pre-op but would/could not wear a CPAP because of PTSD. My sleep apnea was completely gone by the time I was 6 months post-op and down 100 pounds (of 185 total).

I am 15 months out and although the rate of air flow I need is lower,  I still need my C-PAP.  I am down over 100 lbs.  I am hoping some day to not need it but I might always need it.

Great question! I haven't used mine for months now and want to return it. Do they require a follow up to stop its use or can I just drop it and run?
