yucky tastes and smells

Ever since surgery everything leaves a horrible taste in my mouth. Even SF peppermints leave a gross taste after they're gone. Also smells are really getting to me now. I used to have a horrible sense of smell and now I smell everything. Please tell me this goes away eventually.

The taste is because of the protein. It puts our bodies in a state of ketosis and makes our breathe smell bad and sometimes our skin. I brush my teeth and tongue a lot, lol. As for the smells, yeah it bothers us for a while but it does get better. I couldnt eat or drink anything chocolate until about a week ago. It all changes after surgery but we get most of it back or so they tell me.

It's pretty typical issues for almost all post ops. Tastebuds change, bad taste in mouth, trouble drinking water, finding a protein you like, remembering all your supplements, trying to establish some form of exercise program, etc. Anxiety and depression can be an issue too. Many post ops end up using antidepressant meds and may need meds for anxiety to deal with these issues. Good luck. DAVE
