so if I have a creamy soup with protein powder for lunch...which is liquid... would I be able to have a drink after that since there isn't really anything to wash down right?  Just curious.  I never drink after eating anything solid, but sitting at my desk after having some soup it occured to me.

thanks!!!

My common sense tells me that you should probably wait at least 30 minutes before drinking just as if you had eaten solid food for the same reasons that you should wait after solid food.  You don't want to flush the food out of your pouch before your system has some time to work on digesting it.

I agree.

Except that there IS no food in the pouch... the cream soup flows straight out of the pouch into the intestine just like water does.

My surgeon and I disagree with the two previous responses because cream soup soup, like water, flows right through the pouch, so there is nothing in the pouch to wash out...  so there is no reason to wait if you are thirsty.

There is no reason to wait. Digesting of the soup will take place in the small intestine. It's pretty cool if you've ever gotten to watch a live barium x-ray. Within a few seconds of drinking the liquid starts draining out of your pouch. There is nothing left in your pouch after a couple minutes.
