Poll- did you "cheat" on your pre op diet?
I had to lose 10 lbs and if I gained any from my last ore-op visit to surgery morning surgery was cancelled. I wasn't taking any chances to have surgery.

My surgeon did not require a pre-op diet. He did suggest following a high-protein/low carb diet for the three months of pre-op processing. I pretty much stuck to that with a couple of "last meal" exceptions. I did not lose any weight during that three months, but my surgery went great, and I lost 148 pounds total.

SAND...it's not a club...it's a frame of mind...
I only had 48 hours of liquids and then nothing at all 8 hours before surgery, so doing that was simple. IF I had been required to do liquids for two weeks or more before surgery, though, I probably would have "cheated" simply because I previously had done three months of a medically supervised VLC liquid diet and lost VERY little weight even though I was very faithful about following the rules... So two weeks of liquids wouldn't have made a bit of difference in my weight and if the point was to shrink the liver with a very low fat diet, I could have done that and still had food.
When I was choosing between two of the area surgeons to do my surgery, the pre-op diet, the issue of lap vs open, and the post-op eating plan were ALL things that I took into consideration.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
I did two weeks of liquid protein shakes only, along with sugar free jello. I was insane and by day five I did cheat, I ate two carrot sticks and a slice of cheese, while stomping through the house, shouting, and swearing. it was a bad day. I don't think it made a lick of difference. I healed amazingly fast, was out of the hospital in one day and hiking by about ten days. I would have done much better with a low carb diet of real foods.
My pre-op was supposed to be two weeks of optifast. I told them when they gave me my date that I was going to be away on business the day they wanted me to start. I was honest and said they could move the date or I will just have to do only 8 days, starting the day I got back. The doctor felt I was fine with 8 days since I wasn't starting all that heavy and didn't have any liver concerns. I started when I told them I would and I did not cheat even once. I thought about it a few times and decided that the few moments of good taste would reap too much guilt for me, so I never did.
No, I didn't stick to it. I added eggs with bacon bits in the morning and I had 3 oz of steak at night.
Yes, I told my surgeon and nut.
No, my cheating did not have a negative impact at all. In fact my surgeon said my liver was the best one he had seen in the month previous and I did lose 12 pounds during the 2 weeks (and I had lost 16 pounds in the month and a half prior to the "2 week diet").
Since my surgery, it is my understanding from my nut, that they now tell their pre-op's that they may have protein; meat, fish or eggs to supplement the diet.
I don't feel I did. My Dr. was very laid back about it all. He said he would like me to go on a liquid diet for 10 days but it was up to me to determine how many days I could actually do. He never asked or brought it up again after that conversation.
I watched what I ate and did my best to cut out all sweets and bad foods and ate sensibly BUT did not go on all liquid diet and managed to lose 18 lbs.
