Anyone out there have a "last meal" right before surgery?

Sure did. Several of them. In the month before my liquid diet, we visited all my fave restaurants and had my faves there. Seems silly now but it was my way of coping then. I can still eat at those places and even some of the same foods - just not as much and not as often! I don't recommend having THAT many last meals but I think the idea of it is a totally normal thought.

I did go out to a restaurant, but I didn't want to eat too much. I had worked hard to lose 40 pounds in the 2 1/2 months before surgery to do that to myself. I actually started eating my lifetime way of eating as practice and it worked out well for me.

I sure did! Hit up Fogo de Chao the week before surgery. It was wonderful! I could probably go back now but we'd never get our money's worth. My doc didn't have a liquid diet until the day before surgery.

I had to start my liquid diet the morning after returning from a 4 day business trip to San Francisco.   I tried to be sensible on that trip, but ate many indulgences too.   So when I returned home, I felt ready to give it my 100% effort.

I had a "last meal", but it was more about knowing it would be a long time before I would go to that particular restaurant again. My wife and I went to my favorite Indian restaurant and I got the curried lamb and ate loads of the spicy onion chutney. I didn't over eat and when I left I was full but not uncomfortable and I really enjoyed every bite. I know I'll go there again and be able to eat my favorite foods, but I'm not there yet (currently weeks PO) and it'll be a while longer.

Come visit me on my blog, Through a Cooking Glass! I talk about my journey through WLS and learning to live, cook, and eat on the other side.

I completely forgot that I had to start my diet the next day as we were deciding where to have lunch.  I regrettably ordered a quesadilla burger at applebee's.  I wish I would have had something better because it was not the greatest! I did have dessert though and man was that worth it! lol

I only had a 3 day clear liquid diet.  My surgery was on a Tuesday, right after NY's.  So no PA Dutch traditional pork and sauerkraut and mashed potatoes for me.  We went out with friends on Friday night to a local pub. I got bangers and mash (English sausage), apps, drinks...and the best part as much diet coke as I could possibly drink.

It's so funny...I can eat some of the stuff I ate that night now...but it's a treat.  Not something I would normally want to eat.  Also my addiction to Diet Coke is gone.

I had a lot of lasts before surgery...i.e. last Big Mac, last pizza...stuff like that.  :)

I had thought I'd have a last meal when I was thinking about surgery.  I didn't realize that you could just go in and buy elective surgery so easily though.   I went to the doctor's for my initial consult on Oct 24th and he scheduled me for surgery on 11/6, which wasn't even a full 2 weeks for the pre-op diet.  I had no clue when walking in that I wouldn't eat anything but liquids again until post-op!
