I had my bypass on 4/8 and my post op appointment on 4/16. I was told at the post op appointment that I am not getting enough calories. I was moved to soups, yogurt, oatmeal, applesauce, ...Along with continuing protein shakes, I am counting protein, liquids, and calories.  With my limited diet , getting enough calories is difficult. I have been adding chicken breast pieces to Swansons broth and liquidizing it with my magic bullet and adding more yogurt with a little banana.  I tolerate this fine except I feel stuffed.  I am afraid that I am eating too much.  I have lost 20 lbs, but that was before the appointment on Tuesday. Has anybody had calorie issues?

I rarely make my 800 cal goal, but I do meet my protein requirement, get all my vitamins. I average 500-700 cals a day.

How many calories are you eating? My surgeon was not concerned about calories at 11 days out. He just wanted me to work on getting enough protein and fluids.

I was averaging 450-500 grams. I get enough protein and fluids. She said that my body would think it is starving without enough calories, therefore loss is more difficult.

That's all I was getting in as well I just wasn't cleared excercise other than walking til I got them up. He didn't say anything until 3 mo when he told me to shoot for 800 so I could start exercising. I wouldn't up my calories and be uncomfortable that early out but that's just me

I never was given a calorie goal prior to my 14 month post op appointment. I only had a protein goal up until that appointment. That must seem like a lot to try and manage, but I'm sure if it's part of your plan, it must be for the best of your health. Sounds like you are on the right track adding the extra.

My bypass was on 4/9 and my nutritionist does not want me to worry about calories for months to come. I was on pureed foods by the time of discharge and I am only to count liquids and protein for now. I know I woukdn't meet any calorie goals as I can only eat 1-2 ounces a meal, but I am meeting my other goals, so I am not worried.
