I never had to do a bowel prep - just nil by mouth after midnight ...

If I were you, I would call the doctor and leave a message asking him to call you back!   I really don't see why this would mean having to cancel your surgery?

Me either. I am just going to do the magnesium citrate and do the liquid diet thing today. Thanks

I wasn't asked to do a bowel prep.  I don't know why some docs recommend doing one since they aren't operating on your colon anyway.

From what I hear because they will be working near the bowel and if they happen to puncture it they want it as empty as possible as not to have toxins empty out into the stomach. Thanks for the input.

My doc said that it has to do with post op consipation and they didnt want any straining right away after surgery, plus its less infection risk in the very rare case of having to convert to an open surgery or in case of surgical error..(sneezing) etc.

That makes sense I suppose. All I know is right now I am starving and hope I won't be hungry like this after surgery. Thanks.

I have done many bowel preps and magnesium citrate should be just fine.  Years ago I had to drink the gallon bottles of bowel prep.  Last time I just had to just drink a bottle of magnesium citrate and it was much easier.
