What's on the menu today, RNY-ers?

Isn't it crazy how different the diets are for each doctor?! I saw people who had a two week pre-op diet of low carb solid food, some have a three day liquid diet...mine was two weeks. Two weeks post op I was on liquids too. Then New Years Eve day I went to my 2 week post op checkup and I was put on soft and lean meats. Ecstasy ensued! Lol. I love chicken and turkey and hard boiled eggs and shrimp...this is a great diet for me. I have about 600 calories a day and 80ish grams of protein. I decided early on to limit my diet to 20g of carbs a day or less. Carbs are a slippery slope for me! If I have a bite of pasta, I have a pound (well maybe not now with my small stomach but you know what I mean). So no mashed potatoes, bread, rice, pasta...because it will either make me sick OR if it didn't I would start to test my stomach. So no carbs for me.

Btw, Mexican tortilla infused broth sounds delicious!

That is very smart thinking.  Stick to it.  There is enough good tasteful food to eat without all the carbs.  I love shrimp dip made with cottage cheese, dab of mayo, lemon juice, hot sauce, garlic, a little horseradish sauce (opt), dill weed, salt and pepper  on celery.  You can add some low fat cream cheese or yogurt to the base and it tastes about the same.  I process the cottage cheese to remove the texture and mince the shrimp pretty fine as well as the celery and green onion.

Yes, I prob should stay away from mashed potatoes.... I'm jealous of your doctors meal plan but I will survive lol. It is crazy how different each surgeons plan can be. I found a protein shake I like (pure protein) so I have no prob getting my protein in. Each shake has 33 grams of protein. That includes the milk also. The cheddar cheese I like has 7 grams of protein for 1 oz.

I think the flavor infused broth is yummy but I have seen several people post on here that they do not like it.  It is strong and a little spicy. I dilute it just a little. It feels good to get something warm in my pouch.

Since its going to be crazy cold here and the weather is all crazy, I had some chicken tortilla soup for lunch and currently have some turkey chili in the crockpot for dinner. Ill probably have some greek yogurt, SF pudding for snacks, or a protein shake for snacks.

Good luck to those that are getting huge amounts of snow dumped on them! We are supposed to get a few inches, but the low tonight is ZERO!

I've really upped my exercise regime lately and doing a tri-sport conditioning class plus 2 spin classes a week plus every-other-day run and/or bike.  But my appetite has fallen waaaay down, not that I've really had one since my blessed RNY.  So today was a protein shake while at the laundromat for breakfast (and let me tell you just how happy it makes me to sit soooo comfortably in the tiny little booths they have set up to get online while you wait).  I'm trying to figure out what I should do for lunch, either some of my homemade beef-veg soup, or a deconstructed California Roll (crab, cukes, avocado, with a drizzle of balsamic/hot sauce).  Dinner will likely be the other of what I don't have for lunch.

I ended up making vegetarian sloppy joes for dinner.  I ate about 3/4 cup with 1/2 a whole wheat english  muffin.  I also had some Greek yogurt and an orange earlier for a snack.  Later I'll probably eat some blueberries.

I ate really crappy today, so I won't share that, but I did want to share my favorite protein shake recipe. My husband got me a ninja, the one with the single serve cups and I make them in that.

1 cup frozen strawberries

1/2 cup milk

3 tbsp sugar free Torani syrup (I use vanilla)

1 tbsp peanut butter

1 cup Greek yogurt. (I use 0% fage)

I put the strawberries in first, then the milk, syrup and PB and the yogurt last. I think it blends better that way. I'll be having one for dinner since I had such a bad eating day.  It's 30g of protein. You'll notice I don't use powder...personally I don't like the taste of any protein powder I've tried, it makes me nauseous...and why would I use it if I can have a healthy, protein packed smoothie that tastes like a strawberry milk shake...I also make this with other fruits and syrup flavors, sometimes leaving out the PB.

Im ten months out, so here are some of my favorite meals:

Breakfast: omelette with ham and cheese, unsweetened applesauce with cinnamon, grits with ham and cheese, oatmeal, scrambled eggs and turkey bacon or sausage. Fruit

I'm really bad about eating breakfast and I'm trying to get better, I usually end up cooking for my husband and then taking a cup of coffee with me to the dog park.

Snacks: I always have a protein shake after I run, so that's my morning snack. I like to have a veggie dip ready in the fridge that I make with Greek yogurt and herbs, I dip cucumbers and broccoli in that. If I'm leaving the house I'll roll up some roast beef and cheese.

Lunches: tuna salad made with lemon and Greek yogurt with cherry tomatoes, lettuce, and Half a slice of provolone, salmon and steamed broccoli, turkey wrap (I use a small taco tortilla, with Greek yogurt in place of sour cream, some turkey and a little cheddar cheese, I eat these with banana peppers or dip them in salsa)

dinners: I usually make a protein, and 2 vegetable sides. We love sautéed cabbage, Brussels sprouts, green beans, broccoli, and asparagus. We are on a big fajita kick lately, my husband makes homemade salsa and then sautées onions in the cast iron, and chicken with some taco seasoning and lime, I use small taco tortillas and put some beans, cheese, lettuce, and salsa, and some Greek yogurt on mine. We love Greek marinated chicken and cucumbers and tomatoes in balsamic vinegar with feta....honey and soy marinated chicken wings....

We have tried to work our passion for cooking and delicious food into my new lifestyle and I think we've done pretty well, there is nothing to say that you have to have the same thing every day to be healthy and there are plenty of delicious recipes out there. Hope this gives someone an idea of a new meal to try, maybe soon I will make a post with some recipes
