I thought it was a myth!

What part of eating the recommended amount of protein is a dangerous idea for newbies to latch onto, exactly? The message I got from OP's post was "guys, remember to eat your recommended amount of protein." I don't think anyone needs protecting from this dangerous "myth"?

If that's what you got from her post - good for you!   It wasn't the purpose of her post and that sentence wasn't refuted by me or anyone else, so yep - YOU win this one!!!!

Congratulations!

When I started posting I would regret it sometimes. But there are so many people who have been through the surgery and a lot of time on maintaining their weight. They really want to help you.Don't regret it.I am only three months out and every day is a new learning experience.

If you are eating salads, then you are eating vegetables at less, which are carbs.  With a diet high in carbs and low in protein, it is not surprising that it has impacted your weight loss.  I posted the question because many people don't get the nutritional education they need from their surgeons and have some misguided ideas about what it is they are eating.  I knew that it wasn't possible that you weren't eating much protein or carbs and were eating only fat.

Please don't take responses here as personal attacks, because they aren't.  The vets are here to provide information, limit the spread of misinformation, and offer general support.  There is no way you are going to post on ANY Internet board and not get other people posting with THEIR experiences!  Besides, if -- as has happened here in the past -- you posted that eating pizza was YOUR EXPERIENCE of what broke multiple stalls (yes, someone actually posted that!), and no one posted that eating pizza is NOT a magic cure for a stall, we would ave all sorts of newbies calling for pizza delivery and getting themselves into trouble.  (No, I am NOT comparing your post (which has good, useful information and encourages people to continue following their protein-forward lifetime eating plan) to the pizza post (which was ludicrous)... I am just making a point about why the vets often chime in.)

I think you misunderstood what Lora was saying.

Macronutrients - the types of nutrients that have calories - are protein, carbohydrates, and fats.  Any food with calories falls into one or more of those categories.  If it is food, it is protein, carbs and/or fats.  Many foods contain some protein and some fat, or some carbs and some fats, or some of all three.  But if it is food, it has to be at least one of those things.

So if someone is eating little protein and few carbs, but they are eating, all that is left for them to be eating is fat.  If someone is not eating protein, carbs, or fat, then they are not eating.

Vegetables contain carbs.  If you were eating mainly salad, then you were mostly eating carbs.

I got it and thought "Cool."  I think it's great when anybody finds something in any area of life that works for them. Ignore the downers.

There are those of us who appreciate your post. ALL of us lose site of things during our journey. Protein is a huge part of the picture and there are days -and i will  totally admit this and not claim perfection- that I do not consume enough. It is very important thank you for sharing.

While I'm happy that you broke your stall, just know that it's super important to get AT LEAST the minimum required amount of protein!

This is not directed at you specifically, just a general comment - but I always find it interesting when people think they've found the magic food, water intake, high carb day, etc. that "broke" their stall. Meaning, if you had kept doing what you normally do - how do you know that your weight wouldn't have changed that day anyway - without the increase or decrease of this or that?

In your case, if you weren't eating the minimum amount of protein, this could very well be the case... but for those people that are doing what they should - I suggest usually staying the course unless the stall is REALLY long lol
