What's on the menu today, RNY-ers?
Hello All,
I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who takes the time to do this on a regular basis. I had my surgery last week (1/22/14) and the few months prior to surgery I would see this thread and couldn't understand why it seemed so popular. Now almost a week post op, and to be honest a little terrified of real foods (luckily I'm still several weeks away from that), I can really appreciate how much planning goes into eating meals that will be most helpful to my success. It's really helpful to see what kinds of things people are eating and planning. So, as my first post I just wanted to say thanks for taking the time!
Hi Dodgergirl! Congrats on having surgery and being on the losers bench, as they say around here! I hope you are healing well and feeling good! I understand being terrified of real foods, and I make sure to meticulously weigh my food and log it every single day into MyFitnessPal. I also wear a Fit Bit One clippedto my bra to track my activity. I have a friend of a friend who did RNY three years ago and says the key to her success is weighing herself every day - you don't gain 30 lbs quickly...but rather, it creeps on and so weighing is a good way to stop that before it becomes a lot of weight. Hopefully you are surviving the liquid diet! I refer to December as "the month I didn't chew". I was SO happy to transition to soft lean proteins after two weeks. I know all plans are different, so you may have a pureed stage. Anyway, welcome, and I am glad these are helpful for you!
Thank you so much for the advice. So far so good with healing, I'm already back at work (I have a desk job though so I know its easier for me than some). I'm happy to hear you like your Fit Bit, I was actually looking into getting one as well. Thanks for the recommendation. I still have another week of the liquid diet, then 2 weeks of protien shakes, milk and yogurt, then two weeks of pureed food before I even get to regular food, so I won't be eating anything "normal" until march. Still, I can't get over the sensation of not being hungry all the time (like I was pre-op). The liquid diet is seriously cruel and unusual with a pre-op stomach :) Thank again for all the advice, I'm excited with this surgery but it's all a little overwhelming too. I'm sure it takes some time to start to trust the process and my new stomach as well, and that's where this site has been a god send. Good luck to you on your journey and thanks again!
I was back at my desk job after one week as well :) WOW you have a strict post op diet! It's crazy how the plans vary. Others have posted they were back on food after 3 days. I had to wait two weeks until soft proteins (chicken, egg, turkey, etc) but didn't have to puree. I was so happy to start having savory food and ditch the sweet food :)
It's definitely overwhelming at times, and I find myself being REALLY emotional sometimes. As in, cry while watching a sappy tv show...and I was NEVER like this before. So be prepared for that fun :) This site is totally helpful becuase all the things that seem crazy are actually totally normal and you can find many other people who have experienced them. My FitBit One is SO motivating for me. I track my exercise and steps and set personal goals for myself. I am a total convert!
2.5 years out.

Back at building running endurance since Dr gave me a green light. Working my way up to a good race pace for first 5K in March. Plus some tough ab sets and lots of great stretching.
Ah! the running bug!! I couldn't fathom getting off the sofa a few years ago, and now I get crazy when I don't get my runs in!! I adore it-I just get lost in my music and pound the pavement. I run 10k on Saturdays, and try to get a 4 mile run in one other day in addition to a few boot camps a week. I love how strong and healthy I feel!! Keep it up and do what you enjoy and enjoy what you are doing!!
And FYI.......the athletic clothes bug is next.........I own more workout clothes than real ones....BUT I NEVER wear them in lieu of real clothes...only when I'm working out!!
