I am 3 1/2 months out and I am still figuring it out. I was having a lot of burping and discomfort. Soooo... this week I have been trying to eat smaller portions and eating more frequently. My doc said I could eat 5-6 times a day but I was only eating 3-4. Someone at the support group said to cut the food the size of chex cereal. So I have been trying to do that. I did have vomiting when I originally transitioned to more solid food... I found it was for 3 reasons -food too dry- I ate too fast- took too big a bite and didn't chew enough. There is an app called eat slower that I did use for a little while. It is like a timer for your bites. Good Luck!

Thank you for your input. It is an adjustment, and learning time, to readjust ourselves after decades of mindless eating, I guess it doesnt come overnight, Maybe I need to try that app! thanks again~

Measuring, planning your meals, no buffets and a food journal are my big helps.  I ate too fast and did not chew well at first.  Now I got it down.  Practice makes perfect as they say.

I had surgery in May and still struggle with eating too fast.  I do measure all my food.  I use smaller plates/utensils. And when I eat - no tv or computer or reading - I pay attention to the process.  Mindful eating - you'll get it down (pun intended).

My husband has the same problem, he gets a big plate and fills it up.  There is probably 6-8 cups on his plate of food.  Then he drinks to wa**** down faster because he feels he has to empty his plate.  Also dumps like 3 times a week from to much candy that he eats in bed while watching TV.  He is 18 months post op, at first he would go to the BR and just throw it all up and then start eating again.  At first his weight loss was great but these habits have now caught up with him and he is making a U turn and heading in the going back up direction.

I'm only 5 weeks out and I eat fast but I eat only a small amount.  Even if my brain hasn't registered it as being full yet I tell it you are full so stop nagging!    I journal everything so I can be accountable. I bite it, I write it.   Sometimes I put my  "toddler" fork down and write in the journal to help slow me down.

I think you have the idea on exactly "how-to" do this right. Great advice, as for your husband, I am sorry to say, but it sounds like he is going to eat right through the surgery tool He was given....But you got THIS!!!

I had my surgery exactly one month after you. I still struggle with eating too fast. For portions though I just measure OR serve myself about what I would serve my toddler. I bought small bowls, use small plates and even have espresso spoons to eat with. Pretend you are a barbie lol.
