dumping question

How much sugar it takes to cause dumping varies from one individual to another. Most people aren't going to dump after one sugary hard candy, but some will.

The general guidelines that some surgeons give is to keep sugar to 5-9g early out.  Not all sugars are created equal, though, and most people can tolerate more sugar from dairy products and fruit than they can tolerate of refined sugar.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.

It's like science... more stuff you eat in a short period... the fasters it will and or can hit you. It could be instantly, so don't try it away from home... barfing in public =  super gross, and you could mess up your pants from the back side too. Have you ever has a bad moment with super flu like symptoms? Have you has a blood rush to your brain? All this and more of less can happen with dumping. Best thing I have learned... do you test drive at home, and close to the toilet, and have a plastic or paper bag, just in case.

Apparently, dumping doesn't happen to everyone as it never happened to me.

The most often quoted figure is 30% will dump. My surgeon insists that we all will dump, but that it will take a LOT more sugar for some of us than others.

Yeah, I agree with your surgeon.  I think that the vast majority of us would dump if we ate enough sugar.

That's what I usually clarify my responses to indicate that I do dump, but that it takes a lot of sugar to make it happen, and that's usually more sugar than I'm willing to  ingest both from a health and caloric standpoint.

For me while eating (if I am slowly eating and talking ...like at a birthday party) to shortly after I finished the desert. For example, I had TWO bites of cherry cobbler and new within 2 minutes that I was going to puke.

It is pretty quick feed back.  My experience has been quick and intense enough where I can correlate to "the offensive" food article and stay away.

My experience happened pretty fast.I had eaten two bites of pumpkin pie.I broke out in a sweat my heart was racing. It was one of the worst feelings.

Some people if they eat too fast that can make them feel like they want to barf.

One thing is to pay attention to your portion size and also make sure you chew really well. I am not a vet but I have learned a few things over the past year.If I eat too much or too fast my nose will run.

There are a lot of vets who can really help.So asking questions is a good thing.Using the search option is also good to research something.

Yes. I had the racing heart too!

But I was so focused on the saliva running in the back of my mouth. You know..the kind you get when you are going to barf?  I chalked it up to fear of barfing at the time.

In addition to what the others have already said, be aware that if you drink something with sugar in it, you will probably get sick much more quickly then if you ingested the same amount of sugar in a solid form. That is simply because the liquid goes into the lower part of your intestine much more quickly than something solid.
