Hello.

I had my surgery yesterday June 7, 2017. I'm home now and I'm stumped on what to make to eat. I'd really like some suggestions please. I'm on 2 weeks full liquid diet. I love oatmeal and I can have that according to my surgeon. Any other suggestions? I thought I had this planned out and ready to go but now I'm home and looking at what I bought ahead of time and it's not going to work for me.

I had protein shakes and broth. One can of broth lasted me all week, having a tablespoon at a time. Still have not eaten oatmeal and will be ten years out in October.

I had the same thing as White Dove with the addition of jello and SF ice pops and of course water. Drink very slowly. Good luck with everything.

Wow! You are discharged already?? According to my diet progression materials, the full liquid stage does not include any oatmeal or pureed foods. At this point, you are pretty much limited to broths with protein added, dairy products if you can tolerate milk or thin plain yogurt, protein supplements, and nothing with any chunks. Your tummy is raw and sutured. Any food with chunks or particles can get caught in the suture line and create an infection.
I know when I got home, the protein shakes I had stocked suddenly made me sick. I had to hurry and order some flavorless Isopure that I could add to savory broths. The diet progression I was given also stipulated everything should be low or no fat. You can have unsweetened almond or soy milk if dairy milk does not agree with you.
I know it's not much, but that is how the first two weeks goes.

I made French Onion Soup (broth only) & then strained the onions out & had the broth - It was much better than the broth in the store. I also made Wonton soup & had the broth. Plain 0% Greek yogurt mixed with unsweetened applesauce cups.

Protein shakes and broth are you best choices. If you have unflavored protein powder you can add it to the broth for more protein. Don't eat the oatmeal even though it's on your Doctors plan. Carbs will slow down you loss and you really don't need them, but you need protein.

The last thing on my mind one day post op was food. I don't understand the oatmeal at all ???? I didn't do protein shakes but that was just my dr. I concentrated on getting enough liquids in especially the first couple weeks. Popsicles and skim milk was my friend. Good luck

I wouldn't eat oatmeal now, and I am three years out.

I drank broth and protein shakes for the first two weeks.

Do you want to eat? I had zero interest in eating after surgery and it was a struggle getting my shakes and water in. After the first week I did try broth a couple of times. Oatmeal would have made me so sick. Even now, 5 weeks out, I doubt my stomach could tolerate it.

I was on full liquids that first two weeks but as of week 3 my Dr.'s diet plan had lots of stuff on it that isn't recommended on the forum- like toast, bananas, oatmeal. I've had some toast but mostly try to limit the carbs as much as I can since I see I will lose more that way.

Hi. I definitely don't have the urge to eat it drink anything. I was just trying to follow the plan I got from them. The oatmeal I had gotten anyway was the Gerber baby oatmeal and not the regular oats. Ill leave it out. I got some broth so I'll try that. For some reason I'm craving spicy things though. I am not a fan of spices so that's odd to me.
