Bummed out

After being in the hospital for 10 days I'm basically back to my starting weight. I'm so bummed out. I went on the scale this morning and my jaw dropped. I want to cry. Now I'm really feeling like this was all for nothing. I'll be one month post op nexr week with nothing to show for it. Any advice or encouraging words I'd really appreciate it.

It's normal to be up after being in the hospital- they pump you full of fluids. Give it a week or two and stay off the scale in the interim. It will come down- just follow your plan.

were you on IV fluids while you were there? All that fluid can account for a surprising amount of weight. If that was it, give it a couple of days...

Don't even sweat it. That's absolutely normal. I think I dropped 18 lbs in a few days once my body decided it no longer needed to retain all tha****er.

Just hydrate as much you can and get your walks in.

Its normal for your weight to increase after being in the Hospital and being on IV...

What I think you should focus on is changing your attitude towards your surgery and the process. The surgery is not magic, and while you may feel like you should be effortlessly losing weight, everyone will tell you that it is simply not like that. You are only one month out from your surgery and have been in the hospital and haven't had the start that others may have had.

This is a life changing surgery and being grateful for this opportunity is a good place to start :)

I was in the hospital for three days - I was discharged at around 7 PM on the third day. I was required to attend a class at my surgeon's center two days after that. When they weighed me there, the scale said I had gained 9 pounds (!) over my weight immediately pre-op. It happens. It's water. I weighed myself 15 days after surgery, and I was down 14 pounds from what I weighed immediately pre-op, 23 pounds if you count that temporary hospital gain (I don't). Your gain is water, and it will leave your body shortly. Don't let it throw you!

It must be very frustrating! But you are just off to a slow start and don't worry about it. Just follow the doctors orders and eat your protein and get all your fluids in and you will start to see some results very soon! You went through all this prep and the actual surgery - it was not for nothing - you just need to have patience! It will happen for you - just focus on the positive stuff and don't get discouraged. You can do this!!

Don't despair, I'm 9 months out and recently got "flooded" with IV fluids in the ER. The extra 10 lbs came off easily in 4 days just sticking to plan.

It WILL come off and all these feelings swirling around ARE normal!!

I had colonoscopy last year. I can home with 8 lbs extra. Not reading anything for 2 days before that and the day off.

Once the IV water got out of me (it felt like I needed to camp on the bathroom for 2 days) was 2 lbs less than before the prep started.

Plus - infection causes inflammation = water retention.
