Less than a week in- Totally Weird

Had my RNY on Tuesday 8/8 and I am grilling chicken for my family lol. The smell and act of grillign keeps me involved and looking forward to a few weeks when Ii can start trying real food again.

Pain is not bad, not taking meds regularly...but i am sick of the "protein coat" on my tongue from the drinks. Every once in a while i have to chew on something and spit it out just to get a normal taste.

Mentally i am pretty good minus the social part of eating that I am missing. So I am at least participating in my family cook out.

Regrets? No, and dont anticipate any...but i could use a quarter of a xanax once in a while when i feel antsy. After 4 days i am not goof enough to do stuff around the house to take my mind off food so it gets to me.

I have been researching this for 6 years. It was time. I was ready. Doc was great. Hospital was great. No bumps in the roads. Just waiting...

Please don't start chewing food and spitting it out. That's going down the path of a serious eating disorder, and you really don't want to go there. Find a better solution, please.

I missed the chewing too so I ate SF popsicles alot in my first few weeks. It also adds hydration.

Glad that things are working out after surgery!

Congratulations on your recent surgery! The loss of chewing is disappointing for sure, but it won't last long. There is a definite grieving process with the loss of certain foods. The gains are so worth it though! Stick to your plan and stay strong!

Have you tried brushing your teeth and tongue when you have "protein coat" on your tongue? I think brushing more frequently than you usually do could help. Trust us, it will get better. Good luck.

I also bought the Biotene stuff and brushed with that, and used the mouthwash. Chances are this is more due to going into a deep ketosis and it makes your mouth all kinds of gross! LOL

This too shall pass, but chewing up food and spitting it out isn't a good idea ;)

Congratulations on a successful surgery; that's great news!

The early stages don't last forever; hang in and you'll soon be progressing to the next stage.

I brushed my teeth and tongue like a person with OCD after surgery to try to get rid of that fuzzy tongue. Like someone else said, sugar free popsicles are great. I make my own, using SF koolaide drops. They're yummy, and an easy way to add extra liquids.

I remember when I was new and on the liquid-diet phase, I got massive cravings for savory things. I remember that my plan allowed for chicken or beef bouillon in a hot broth, and it really helped. Your plan might be different, of course, and you could also ask your doc.
