How much Viamin C do you take with Iron, I think I'm taking to much?

I started started taking one less iron but stayed with same dosage Vit C , now I have diarrhea.

Grim gave me this advice last year when I was starting an iron supplement. 200 mg of C for every 30 mg of iron. And keep iron 2 hours from calcium, dairy, coffee, tea, soy, etc.

That ratio seems to work, as my Hematologist said 1,000 C with the pill and I think the pill she recommended has 150 mg.

HW 510 / SW 424/ GW 175 (stretch goal to get 10 under) / CW 160 (I'm near the charts ideal weight - wonder if I can stay here)

You should. Vitamin C helps you better absorb iron. Calcium, coffee, tea, etc inhibit iron absorption.

Emie has it right.

A little extra vitamin C won't hurt you. It won't build up in your system.

I don't know why taking less iron would give you diarrhea, unless you also changed the type of iron. I've never heard of vitamin C causing diarrhea.

I had labs done and my Bariatric Nut says all looks fine, Iron is 70 so not sure what problem is. I take my Iron late night and wake up with stomach cramps and diarrhea and have it a few more times during the day. It does not matter if I eat anything or not. This has been going on for a month now. Appointment Friday to talk to Doctor. I previously never had diarrhea so this is not normal. Still taking same Iron and Vitamin C 1000. I really have no idea what problem is because labs were fine.

What kind of iron do you take? Some are known to cause GI distress. I take heme iron (Brand: Proferrin ES), which has better absorption and minimal side effects (no GI distress) than ferrous sulfate.

Iron constipates some causes diarrhea for others, I was having constipation issues so had to moderate that treatment when I started iron as it tends to give me the runs, trying to strike the right balance now.

I have to see my Doctor Friday because I have always taken same Iron, had no problems going to bathroom at all. The problem all started when my Nut said my Iron was a little low , at the time it was 50, 5 months ago so she had said try Ferrochel Iron I waited to try it but decided to on July 14 I tried it for 1 day and it destroyed me . I woke up to bad cramps and explosive diarrhea I was cramping and running to toilet all day. I tried going back to the one I'm taking but I'm still having problems. I hope Dr can figure out.
