What's on your menu today (Monday) RNYers?

I made a mistake with my chicken...I got shaved instead of almost shaved....it's still tasty and I'm using the shaved to make up the micro weights on the scale -- it works really well for that...and for a day when you want it to look like a HUGE volume of food, shaved is the bomb!

I actually prefer shaved! My deli people hate me - shaved takes SO much longer and all the chicken bits fly off and then it's hard for them to stuff this large pile of chicken in a bag, but oh well! I get shaved when they seem in a good mood, I put up with "sliced super thin, almost shaved" when there are people waiting or when they appear to be in a bad mood lol. I mean, for $9 a pound I guess I should feel like I can ask for whatever slice I like, but sometimes they scare me!

I ended up with a new girl at the deli yesterday and was waiting FOREVER for 1.5lbs shaved! She kept slicing and slicing then weighing again and again - it looked HUGE, but she wasn't even close. I finally said that's enough, we're good! Its was .92lbs.

I warm it in the micro with cheese, OMG, yum!

Isn't it the best deli meat, EVER? I might never buy deli turkey again! Ever Roast deli chicken for the win!

I haven't warmed it...might have to try that!

I have a question for you shaved chicken gals. Apologies for my ignorance. So you go up to the deli counter and ask for...what? Shaved chicken? Do they have cooked chicken that they pick up and put it on the cutting thingy-magig and cut it really thin? I have never done this and am intrigued. I have asked for prosciutto but never chicken.

That's not a silly question, if you haven't done it before! They have it wrapped in the deli section, like the prosciutto and then they will slice it for you - the boars head brand has several chicken breast options but the Ever Roast is the best (although I did like the madras curry one 2nd best) so I always specify the whole name Boars Head Ever Roast Chicken because I'm annoying like that.

Totally not an ignorant question! It's a deli meat, just like all the other Boar's Head and other brand deli meats. I prefer the Boar's Head Ever Roast chicken. I just say "hi, can I please have a pound of Boar's Head Ever Roast chicken, sliced super super thin, almost shaved?". And then they take the gigantic hunk that is saran-wrapped and put it on the slicer and adjust the slicer to be very very thin. It's soooooo good.

Yum! I'm already salivating. Added to my shopping list.
