I have the sleeve gastrectomy I have never heard of any wls making someone sterile if anything the decreased weight and lessening of wear and tear on your reproductive system may increase your ability to get pregnant that is why doctors warn us to be more careful and not get pregnant the first year go on the wls pregnany forum and ask questions I am sure that you will find some answers.

I have not had any problems with pills. I was kind of afraid at first... but no problems here. So I have not modified how I take them... Just swallow with water or eat with food if that is what is suggested on the label. Sharon

Topic: Question about pregnancy????
I had the Silastic Ring Vertical Gastroplasty which I was told was very simialar to VBG. My question is can we become pregnant later down the road. I just assumed I would be able to. My appt for the Dr isn't for about another week so I thought maybe someone would know or have became pregnant. The reason I am asking is someone told me the other day that I would not be able to! Thanks for any and all advice!! Mary

Hi Cari.... I am affiliated with another support group as well as this one. It was designed for dr abawi patients. They have a lot of great information. It is a yahoo group. They have recently posted meal and menu plans for post op's. I will try to forward some to you. I have my surgery in three weeks. I hope things start looking better for you. Many of my concerns are what i will and will not be able to consume. I will get back to you asap. Mel

I have not had my surgery yet, but when I had my hysterectomy I had a similar problem. I know you are not supposed to have sweets, but my mother gave me peppermints, and this helped, as well as, walking. Maybe you could have peppermint tea? I would definitely lay off the dairy until this passes-no pun intended-lol. I had to post since no one else was kind enough to answer. I hate it when I get no replies. Hope Everything else is going well. Good Luck, Dana

Topic: RE: Pill Crushing?
Thanks for the info Dianne. I am going to talk to my pharmacist this week so I can find out which ones I have to go to the compound pharmist for creating in a crystal or powdered form. So glad you answered-I was worried about this-Dana

Some pills because of time release cannot be crushed and might make you feel ill. You would have to ask your doctor or pharmacist which ones you can crush. I have had most of my meds put into liquid. There is one I take that I take in crystals. It is in a capsule and I just empty it into yogurt or applesauce. I even take liquid vitamins and calcium . My doctor always says I can't take any pill bigger than an aspirin so anything the same size or smaller I take in pill form. Dianne

At my initial consult, my surgeon said I could not take my meds in pill form. He said that I either had to have them crushed, compounded or put into liquid suspension. What has been your experience with this? Do you just mix it in water-that must be nasty tasting? Anyhow, anyone who wants to share their experience with this let me know. Thanks a bunch, Dana
