Hi Kim, I had my vbg almost 4 years ago. I lost 113 lbs in 9 months. It was great. We were told not to eat bread because it can swell. Being a new post op, you need to be very careful not to disrupt that staple line. Rice can do it too. Those were the days, those first few months. You lose most of your weight the first 9 or so months if you follow the rules. Remember the three main keys. Protein, water, exercise. I am able to eat normally now. Granted, not near what I used to, but I still have to watch it very closely. I got so close. Within about 20 lbs to goal. I started eating sugar again and slowed down on my exercise. I was exercising 45 minutes a day. I have gained back some weight, but I still don`t regret it. I am trying to go back to those first days and it`s not easy. It is normal to reget it at first. Most people do. Just enjoy and take advantage of this time. Good Luck and God bless.

For some people remember- the hair loss isn't taht great- menaing they don't lose a vast amount of hair. I noticed that I would lose some extra hair when I washed or when I brushed my hair - but it went away once I started increasing my proteins. When it comes to additives for smoothies- try adding lecithin powder and protein powder to smoothies. they both help promote regrowth.

Hi Kim, I am 7 1/2 months out and I love the VBG. I have lost 94 pounds (possibly more because I haven't weighed in 2 weeks) and I am so happy!!!!!!! However, the first few weeks/months were not the easiest. I had trouble feeling full, but I was told that due to the surgery your pouch and stomach are numb from the trauma of surgery. Don't test the limits now. Just follow the orders from your surgeon or nutritionist and all will be well. Don't get down on yourself for not losing what u expected in a week. Put the scale away if it is giving you problems. I find that the less I weigh in the more I lose Stress can hamper weightloss, so just stay positive and do what you need to do and you will be fine!! You will get hungry feelings with the vbg or the rny. They are just tools. It is up to you. As far as regretting getting the vbg, NEVER. I have seen friends with the rny who are not doing as well as I. They have not changed their behavior. The vbg is less invasive and we don't have the same non absorption problems. It is the best thing I have ever done. Stop worrying about weight loss every single week and make sure you are doing what you should. I will come, believe me. I am staying 127 to 128 right now. My surgery was in 11-17-2003. My starting weight was 257. I got below my goal weight and feel great. I have completely changed my way of eating and that is what you must do. Good luck, you can do it.

Kim, I am in Jax, Fl I just wanted to say it has been a year for me since the surgery and I have lost 60lbs, those were lost within the first 6 months. While I am extremely happy that I went this route because my life has changed drastically just by losing that amt, I still want to lose more and the scale is not moving. Granted, its because many of my bad habits are back and as before, I have no idea how to get rid of them.. but I am still trying and when I think of all the problems that other gastric patients have, I am thankful that I chose this surgery. But I can honestly say that on the really bad days, I am kicking myself for not having the gastric Thank goodness the choice is still up to me, I can get this weight off if I want to bad enough...I just have to get moving and stop expecting it to fall off on its own I would love to talk to you more if you ever need an ear Take care and God bless, Susan 286/225/175
