Yes I have had irregular cycles since I can remember. I would go months without one and then all of a sudden I would have one. I didn't have one for about 6 months and the day before my surgery I started....talk about being mad. I started having cycles every month until December. I didn't have one in January and then about the 12 of this month I started spotting just like you are. I also want to know if this is normal. Sorry about not being any help I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone. I was also told that it was weight related so I don't know what to think now. Well anyway congradulations on the weight loss!!!!! Mary

I am wondering if anyone has had irregular menstrual cycles since surgery? I have been irregular for most of my life, but I was told it was due to my weight....I am wondering if this is something I should be concerned about post surgery. I have been pretty regular since I had surgery, but I skipped January and I had one in early February and now I am spotting. Is this normal? Thanks for your responses!!! Hugs, Sara 356/276/175

Hi Lia, I am glad you are seeing your doctor because the sooner you take care of it the better. I did not have an infection, but a freind of mine had an open RNY and she had and infection. It took some time, but it healed and she is totally fine. Don't worry I am sure the doc will take care of it and everything will be ok Hugs, Sara 356/278/175

I had open VBG on Jan. 24 in Houston with Dr. Harberg and am happy to report that in 3 weeks, I've lost 24 lbs. However, now I have an infection at the suture site. There is a tiny hole that green stuff(YUCK) and bright red blood oozes out of. I am going to Dr. today to have him check it out, but was wondering if anyone else has had this and if so, what was done about it?

Hi Lakeea!! Happy Valentine's Day. I also had the vbg and was a little disappointed when I didn't see the weight coming off as fast as I thought it should. But I think you're doing great, I only lost 10 lbs my first 2-3 weeks out. I ate chili, cream of wheat, broth and jello. I also had a lot of Atkins shakes, I did notice that when I was able to drink more fluids, and was getting all 110 ounces of my water in, I started losing a little more weight. I know it's easier said than done, but try to be patient and stay hopeful. You'll do great =) You're doing great now. Keep up the good work ~Jae 275/204/175

Hi Lakeea, Just take a deep breath and relax. You are doing fine!!!! It is very common for the body to hold onto the fat in the early stages following surgery. it is in shock and it just takes time for your body to learn to burn the stored fat for fuel. The weight will come off, but it does come off at different rates for different people. But remember this...u lost 14 pounds in only 3 weeks!!! What diet does that? Just try to stay positive and everything will just fall into place. At 3 weeks post-op you are probably eating pureed foods...I suggest soups, chili, eggs, tuna fish, cottage cheese, yogurt, and anything else your surgeon has cleared you to eat. At this point exercise should not involve any resistance training, so basically walking and any type of cardiovascular exercise is where you should start. Once you are cleared to lift weights you should start a program for that as well since building lean muscle keeps the metabolism up. Good luck to you!!! Hugs, Sara 356/278/175
