Topic: Dr. Mario Alberto Almanza-Reyes
I was just posting this because I've had more people than I thought, write me and let me know how much their sorry and how they are praying. My momma is one of the nicest people out there, I wish that we can individually meet each and every person on this website that are planning on going to Dr. Almanza. I wish I could take you guys through a normal day in my life now that everything has messed up in my life. Going through my last summer as a high school student. I can't have fun... I won't have fun. I want justice to be served!!! I want to save someone's life. Please this is NO JOKE!! I wake up everyday and I think and pray about anybody who's in or going into surgery with Dr. Almanza... I pray for you guys. I don't even know you guys. My mom has been in ICU on a ventilator for 7 days now... my best friend... I can't go see her whenever I want to anymore... visiting hours are precise. My mom won't be able to see the 17th Anniversary of me arriving in this world, because she's too busy going through something that shouldn't have ever happened!!! DOCTORS MAKE MISTAKES... BUT WHAT KIND OF DOCTOR MAKES MISTAKES OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN.. Yes, you might have had a WONDERFUL experience... but listen to the stories people.. just because you were lucky DOES NOT mean that everybody else was. There are many people around the United States and Canada that are dealing with their friends and/or family members DYING with deadly infections, holes in stomachs, esophagus, etc. You guys keep telling your friends to go.... and eventually, you are going to go through what me and my family and plenty other families are going through right now. I'm not trying to harsh Dr. Almanza's "mellow".... I am truly, honestly, and dedicative to preventing as many people from going to this doctor as possible. Please spend the extra money and getting done by someone who is, not only cheap and kind, but dedicated to helping you. Not a doctor who is just going to WHAM BAM over and never see you post-op (to many people). Please PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE..... I am not doing this to get back at Dr. Almanza or anybody that is working over there just because they've done this to my momma. I am doing this to prevent YOU from ever going through something like this. It IS NOT FUN.
Love always and forever,
Miranda

Topic: RE: VBG Sucess ????
Hi, i had  vbg done in 2006. I lost  147 lbs, i could not get rny done because of a medical condition that i have.  So far i am doing fine except  even tho i had a very rocky start.  I do know you have to watch what you eat, i cannot eat meat (fish only) so i learn to love veggies and i do whey unflavored protein powder mixed with carnation instant breakfest(no sugar added).    i work out 4x a week to keep my weight down.  would i recommend this? no, due to the very bad stomach issues, but for me, i know what i have to do to keep the weight off.   If you have any questions please ask.

Topic: RE: Surgery Procedure Question??
Hi Jen, I haven't heard of a combo surgery like that before.  Can you get your surgeon to find an image of what it looks like?    I don' t really understand how it can be a combo?  Is he sayig that he does a gastroectomy with a perment band (silastic ring)?

Anything do to with the VBG, I am not in favor with, but that's just my opinion.
Try to find out more.

Good Luck! :)

Topic: RE: What is VBG? Im confused
it is short for Vertical Banded Gastroplasty, they dont really do it anymore, for good reason in my opinion.

It is like a permenant "band" that is not adjustable.  The stomach is stapled and it is strictly restrictive.
Do a google search for images.  A lot of people are getting revised from it due to complications.

Topic: RE: I believe I was given BAD ADVICE
this sounds like a very CASE specific situation.  as you have a diagnosis of "was tested for a genetic disease, and found out I had Factor 5 Leiden"  o   I would be interestd to know if this issue pops up with anyone else.

The two events (genetic issue & VGS) could have have created isses your dealing with are corrolated with each other.?    interested Rotund WON

Due to the clothing exchange,  will not have out regular meeting on June 12th, but we invite you to join us the 2nd Saturday of every month thereafter for support meetings.

It's  Clothes Exchange time!!!
So, clean out your closets, and ask your family, friends, and co-workers to donate their gently used, clean clothes to your wls buddies.

It's so hard keeping up with your wardrobe as the pounds shed, so a clothing exchange is a great opportunity to give and take a few pieces to get you through your transition.

Pre-ops this is a GREAT opportunity to get all the awesome clothes others have shrunk out of.     Our loss is your gain:-)  The last clothing exchange I attended at the OH conference in November was a free for all for size 2x and up ladies. EVERYBODY had tons of bigger sizes to share.

Your non-wls family and friends are welcome to participate in the swap too, but please ask them to share some things if they are planning to take a few things away.

Please spread the word with your surgeon's office and support group. You do not have to be a member of the GA Losing for Life Group to participate. Everyone is WELCOME.

Feel free to share:
business and casual clothes, especially summer wear
sleepwear
fittness wear, sports bras, sweats, etc.
work out videos, and fittness equipment
bras, and hosiery
swimwear
shoes
purses
accessories
unused protein products, vitamins, and other wls friendly products
wls books, magazines, etc.

**** Please be courteous and only share clean items,  and current styles in good condition with no rips, stains, or tears.  You do not have to place items on hangers.

    Please come join us!

* We will go somewhere nearby for lunch after the swap for those who want to join us.
