I am still in the losing stage, but yes (Gasp!) I eat carbs.  I limit them and try not to eat more than 40gr per day, but on occasion I go up as much as 80gr.  It still is a low carb count.  I am however very physically active, I am at the gym 2 hours a day, 6 days a week (sometimes 7), so I try to get some carbs early in the day for energy.....but will eat my protein first, and if I have room add some rice or potato.

A couple of tablespoons of potato or rice or even pasta didn't make me fat.....a big ole bowl (or 2) of spaghetti a night made me fat!

My NUT guidelines are pretty lenient, just to eat protein first and if I have room I can eat veg/carb.  For me this a total life change and view of life, I can't think I'm on a "diet" in our modern use of the word, but I have to focus on my "diet" in it's traditional definition...the food I eat on a daily/regular basis.

Check with your NUT, check to see how your body responds, not only in tolerating carbs, but also how your weight loss rate becomes affected by it.

I'm with Ms Shell, used to eat a lot of potatoes, but since surgery (2 years ago), I am more likely than not, to throw them back up.  Still got lots of restriction!

If it feels good, do it!  And if it smells good, eat it!

Every so often I try a few bites but usually I feel the need to throw up after wards.

After WLS surgery you eat so little that a few carbs are not going to hurt anything and if you do any kind of a workout you need those carbs so eat a potato every now and then no fries bake it

I eat carbs (less than 50 grams a day but I eat them) but not 'white' carbs (no potatoes, rice, pasta or bread). Eating them only triggers my carb cravings and makes me want MORE carbs. It's one of those foods I HAVE to stay away from.

Edit: I'm not going to tell you to avoid them, though I think they aren't good to have during the losing phase. What does your program say? Does your nutritionist/surgeon allow them? If so, one or two bites probably won't hurt you, as long as you're getting in your protein first.

Potatoes, what potatoes? I never was much of a potato person, haven't had any potato since last Thanksgiving's sweet potatoes... My surgeon's plan does say no potatoes, so I will keep to that, maybe until this Thanksgiving??? Just follow your surgeon or nuts advice and I would avoid french fries due to the fat and salt, otherwise do what you feel is right for you. We can try anything once and as long as it doesn't make you ill or you notice it stalling you, then have it in moderation...

Well as we all probably already know, i can be a bad girl.  I confess,  i have eaten a few french fries when eating out with friends off of their plates.   But that being said,  in the beginning its really not a good idea.  Protein first is the mail rule in this game and when i am bad and have carbs i notice i really want more.  So i'm turning over a new leaf.  No more potatoes until Thanksgiving.  Good luck,  Jeani
