I'm 5 days post and have gained 6 pounds.

Has anyone else gained before they started to lose?  I'm thinking my body is just defending itself from what it's been through?  Am I right? If I am, when do I start losing?

IT's probably water weight!  Be patient it will come off I noticed mine when I didn't stress so much!  Remember walk sip rest and repeat!

Ok.... I wish I could drink a gallon of water!!!! LOL!!!

I was told that once your body gets used to having all the water it wants it will start releasing water in the usual way....  most of us don't drink the appropriate amounts of water pre op so our body hoards the water it needs until it gets the amount it needs daily.  Makes sense to me!

  True!!!! I've heard that too! :)  Sometimes I just want to jump in the pool or a cold shower to feel refreshed! :)

I am 5 days pot op too, but have stayed off the scale.  I know from my band surgery that your    body isn't too prone to losing for a little after post-op.  As far as when, it really is what you are eating on your post-op diet.  Also, you may stall when you move from phase to phase.
