I'VE HAD MY BAND 1 YEAR AND I;M LOOKING AT REVISING TO VSG IN 2 MONTHS. MY SURGEON ADVISED ME HE WOULDN'T DO IT LAPRASCOPIC BUT WITH A 6-8 INCISION DUE TO LESS TIME UNDER. HAS ANYONE HERE HAD A REVISION WITH THE BIG INCISION? HOW WAS YOUR RECOVERY???? ALSO WERE YOU HAPPY WITH THE VSG COMPARED TO BAND? THANKS GUYS

I had my band for only 7 weeks. It had to be removed due to infection. My doctor could not do the revision so I had to wait 7 months. All surgeries were laproscopic. Not sure why yours will be open. I guess it's easier to get to everything? I'm only 2 weeks out tomorrow and I love my sleeve. Much better than the band in my opinion.

He said that the risk is increased doing it laprascopic because the amount of time it takes an he doesn't like the risk so he does all his revisions open. I don't mind the scar but i'm wondering how long it is going to take to recover an if anyone else had done this. Glad to hear that you love ur sleeve cause i hate my band :)

I was revised from band to VSG Tuesday.  My doctor never even brought up the idea of an open surgery.  He used the same incision sites that he used for the band.  I have one addition incision inside my belly button.

I would consider finding another Doctor, if that is possible.  I see that you live in LA.  Where?

I used Surgery Specialist Of Louisiana in Covington and Metairie,  They are AWESOME!!!

U will be much happier with VSG! I am a bandster also and have been researching VSG for quite awhile now. VSG is a much more successful WLS than the band!!!

The sleeve is amazing ! ! ! I revised over 2 years ago, and have loved having the VSG.

As for the open procedure, I have only seen a couple that had to have open procedures and it's very uncommon. They only had to go to an open procedure upon attempting a revision via a laprascopic revision.

I would question how many revisions he's actually performed if he's having to do them open just because of the time. The recovery with an open procedure is so much more risky and extensive. You'll be out for at least 6 weeks with major lifting restrictions because of the risk of hernias with an open procedure.

I wouldn't worry about the scar either, BUT I would be highly worried about the open procedure.

I had the band for 3 years and I am getting it removed Tuesday. My doctor will use the same incisions he made for the band, to remove the band and preform the sleeve procedure.

I had my band out and then five weeks later had my revision to the sleeve, my doc does not do band removal and sleeve revision at the same time b/c it increases the likely hood of a leak. After I healed from the band I was able to have my VSG laproscopically.
