My surgeon had me take tums the first 3 weeks or so in addition to the PPI.  I just took them no matter whether I had symptoms or not.  Try it and see if you feel better.

I spoke to my doctor and doubled my PPI.  I also stopped taking my medicine and vitamins all in one shot, that really helped a lot.

Good luck,

I would talk to your doctor about doubling your PPI - many people with the sleeve get terrible reflux postop.  Unfortunately, that is one side effect you may have to life with indefinitely. Taking your PPI 2 times daily may be a good option for you but I doubt tums will do anything for you.  I know many use it when they get some mild heartburn but all it really is, is calcium.

My Dr. has me on a PPI and 6 tums a day. I have been taking this since I left the hospital. I haven't had any heartburn at all!

The calcium carbonate in Tums can actually cause rebound reflux (they do for me). But, Gaviscon seems to give more relief for any breakthrough reflux that you may experience while the PPI is getting into your system. Make sure you are taking the PPI on an empty stomach, and waiting 1 hour before eating, or eat  then wait 2-3 hours to take it.

My doc reccommended Gaviscon because he says Tums could cause rebound acid reflux.   I would definitely check it out with your doc though....
