starting to get discouraged....

Even though I recognize that I can't say I haven't been successful with this surgery I can't help but feel a little down about my weight loss pattern. I am 2 months out and have lost about 45 pounds including pre-op. The bulk of that was in my first month but I seem to go through a lot of stalls. I'm eating clean watching the protein cals and carb count and still... I haven't budged on the scales for like 3 weeks now! I don't get it Kinda of regretting not doing a more aggressive wls. I'm scared I will never get to my goal at the rate I'm going and also makes me think what's the point of continuing to still "diet" when its still stalling me.... ughhggggg

 Good Morning,

Are you doing everything that you can?   Are you exercising or walking daily?   if you aren't moving your body then that could be what the problem is.   Sometimes it takes something just as small as that to jumpstart your weight loss.   Also FYI....you will have to exercise or walk forever ( or most do ) to keep the weight down.     Also make sure you are getting in enough calories....otherwise your body will go into malnourished mode and hang on to every pound.   Trust me...mine does that alot.   Good luck to you and don't give up.   VSG is a awesome surgery and 45 lbs. in 2 months is a really good start.   Stay motivated and I'm sure you will do fine.

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

I am in your same boat. I had sugery on 7/5/11 and I am down about 45 including pre op. I have the exact same feelings about should I have done another surgery. I am not getting in as much exercise as possible due to the extreme heat in Tennessee and I am lookin forward to cooler weather. My goal is 160 and I am about 215 right now. I just keep trying to do my best ans waiting for the hot temps to break because I do enjoy walking outside

I don't think your weight loss is the problem - it might be your expectations!

When you hang out on OH, you need to really step back and take a few reality breaks every once in a while. When I first started on here, I'd see people who were losing 100+lbs in 6 months, etc, and I thought this was a miracle surgery. That is not quite how it works - for some yes, they get lucky and lose pretty quick. The majority do not. You are losing at a very healthy and quick rate -all things considered. I'm 3 mo out and have lost 45 so you are certainly losing quicker than I am -r egardless of whether you lose it in big chunks or slowly over time.

I feel the same way though sometimes - I lost 40 lbs in 3 months during my Kaiser class, and here I am 3 mo out and lost 45, so I usually wake up thinking what a joke it was to have surgery since I could have lost the same amount on my own. But then it's back to reality check time - do I really think I could have continued my same efforts for this long with a normal stomach, real hunger, and the ability to binge? Do i really think I would have ever KEPT the weight off once I reach goal? No, that's why I did this - regardless of the rate I am losing, I still have a tool that keeps me in line when I otherwise might have strayed a bit.

my encouragement to you would be to stop comparing yourself to others and compare yourself to you. the you that was there prior to the surgery. do you feel better? do you look better? are there things you can do now that you could not before?
i had my surgery in january and for the first couple months i did not even get on a scale except at the doctor's office because i did not want to be discouraged.
now, i only weigh at the gym, it motivates me to want to go to the gym.
in 7 months, i have lost about 100 lbs, but the best part is that i am feeling good and doing alot of things that i wouldn't do 7 months ago. i have been to pofessional sports games now. quit doing that due to not fitting in the seats and being very uncomfortable. i love them now.
Don't get discouraged. Hang in there and you will get where you want to be.
Does it really have to be a quick loss?

I'm 9 weeks out and lost 46 lbs. so far including pre-op. Stop and think - when have you EVER lost over 20 lbs./month? Even if you have before THIS time you have a much better chance of keeping it off in the long run.

I'm very happy with my weight loss. I'm stalled a little right now and I know it will start again soon. I'm not worried. I'm staying on plan and exercising and I know my body will reflect it soon.

Think about how you feel too. Don't you feel healthier and lighter? Enjoy that. You can't give up now.

Think of Luke in his X-wing heading toward the Death Star. Darth Vader is picking off the other fighters as they head toward the ventilation shaft. The wing leader keeps saying, "Stay on target" even as his fighters are blowing up around him. Just ignore the distractions of stalls and cravings and stay on target. You'll get there!

For me I had to exercise exercise exercise that is how I got the scale to keep moving. I still stall for 3 weeks at a time but I know if I push my self more it moves. I exercise 7 days a week and eat 1200 because of all my exercise i use all the calories up most times. By the end of the day most times my calories are 200 a day.

My surgeon gave me the tool. Now it is up to me to use it right.

Thank you guys for all your responses. I'm in it for the long haul so I just gotta stick it out. I increased my gym time had started at 30 mins but I pushed myself to 45 mins today Hopefully I can get to a good 60 min of cardio to see if this fat suit melts off already.
