Nuts?

I love nuts but it's gonna be awhile before I can eat them again. Just wondering if it would be ok to maybe have a tsp or two of some all natural sugar free organic nut butters(peanut, cashew, etc.) Once I reach my puree stage. Still on liquid now-day 9 post op here. I haven't read any posts bout nuts n just wondering how well you guys have been able to tolerate them. I'd hav to say nuts are the one thing I can't give up. Love em plain, unsalted organic, yum.
Thanks for any advice and hope everyone is enjoying their friday!

I don't know about puree stage for the butters. I wouldn't think so, but you could ask.

Some surgeons/Nuts have peanut butter as a no-go during the losing stage because it's a higher carb to protein ratio and very high calorie. However I have a Tablespoon of peanut butter now and then and do just fine. My drug of choice is Power Pb from Vitamin Shoppe or GNC because it has twice as many protein grams as carb grams (my tablespoon has 6g of protein and only 3g of carbs).

I wasn't allowed to have nuts until after 3 months. Again nuts are high calorie, so it matters whether you can do them in moderation. They're not a trigger food for me, so I can eat 7 or 14 almonds and be done. Almonds are a great nut and come flavored in all kinds of ways. Watch the sweet ones, they are usually carby.

I did almond butter and peanut butter a lot in the beginning....I added it to my protein shakes frequently. I didn't even do the sugar free kinds....

When I was able to do purees, I ate peanut butter and almond butter plain...it was a convenient portable food and I relied on it since I wasn't able to eat much of other things....

Now that I can eat regular nuts, I hardly ever eat the butters anymore....

Of course, I wasn't worrying about calories or fat on my plan....if you are, you might want to stay away....

Just be careful early out as it can sit very heavy in your new stomach.  I would definately ask your doctor, they all have different plans! Good luck to you!

I had peanut butter occasionally, usually on a saltine or two, during the initial mushy/soft protein phase (was part of the plan guidelines) without any problem, but people do differ on such things. I don't use it much at this point because of its relatively low protein to calorie ratio, but for early on when in the "trying to find anything that will work" phase it does OK.

I do use whole nuts some now, and did mix in some almond pieces with my greek yogurt from early on to add some crunch.

As an alternative, you can try PB2.  It is a powered product that has less fat than regular peanut butter.  Mix with water (you can adjust the thickness) to the consistency of peanut butter or just add to shakes to give them a peanut taste.  Here is the website:

Here are the nutrition stats:
