Has anyone had experience with this insurance and what their guidelines are for weight loss surgery. I have heard from so many others about their  insurance companies and  the 6 month required supervised doctor visits. I am a State Employee.

Your insurance may be similar to mine.  I am a federal employee in NYS with BCBS.  I had to do 3 months supervised diet and meet all other surgeon requirements.  Paperwork was submitted at about the 3.5month mark and approved.  I am now goin on 6 weeks post op...woop woop.  If you do have the same insurance make sure you read over the plan.  I had to switch to the basic plan at the last minute as it covered the surgery 100% and the more expensive option wanted me to pay 15% of everything.  Good luck!

I have called the insurance company and they said that all I would need is a pre approval  letter from my surgeon.

I have that exact insurance. I didn't have a 6 month diet, and was approved three days after my doctor submitted. The insurance company actually called to tell me before they mailed a letter to the surgeon.

No worries. BCBS Empire is one of the few good insurances left. For what we have to pay for it, it better be! Good luck!

You are right about a few good insurance companies left. I must say I can't complain. I appreciate the information. Thank you.
