What size bougie did they use on you?
Size 32 here.
I have no idea what's "too big"
I've read posts from some that have 40
My husband is 5'10" and weighed 280? at surgery. He had the same size 32 that I had but he can eat 3x as much as me. He could always intake more than me, right from day 1. Maybe because his stomach is longer?
It's not the best thing for him now after 4-5 months.
He really has to watch his quantity.
But in all honesty he did not follow the initial plan well so he probably stretched his sleeve.
Maybe the vets on this board could give more insight?

32fr here. In some published information, it has been shown that patients with bigger than 40fr have a higher incidence of regain. BUT, this does not take into account behaviors or people who "cheat their sleeves". The bougie is only a minimal part of the equation. Surgeon's experience and technique and your own anatomy will play a larger role in your final sleeve capacity. As Frisco always says, " All sleeves are NOT created equally". And, this is so true. Surgeons with tons of experience have their technique down, and proven results. New surgeons have less experience, less stats, and higher complications.
Even with a 32Fr, I can still suck down a 3000 calorie milkshake. The big "operative" word in that sentence is "CAN", I don't because I know I shouldn't.

It is the sizing tube the surgeon uses to cut the stomach. It is placed through the mouth during surgery and it acts as a guide. The smaller the bougie the smaller the stomach. Studies have shown that a 32 french will have better results long term as far as weight loss and keeping it off.

I have a 36fr.
I am happy with what I have ! I can eat enough to get about 3oz of dense protein and a few bites of vegies in a meal. I can eat an enevelope of oatmeal or an egg with a a slice of cheese in it for breakfast. I can eat about 3oz of tuna salad and a couple little grape tomatoes with it.
I have lost almost 75% of my excess weight (surgery weight) and if you count from the weight I started at....over 80%.
My sleeve and I have accomplished so much....I wouldn't be very concerned about the difference between a 32 to a 40 --- it's literally spoonfuls of food difference !
Trust your surgeon to do what is 'right' -- my surgeon told me that he would decide exactly what size to use when he "got in there" but usually uses a 34 to a 40 depending on the size of the remnant stomach. He assured me that one size did not fit all, and for me, I liked knowing that he didn't just do the same thing for everyone...I was an individual.
