 It's an acid reducer.  Often the increase in acid in your stomach can mimic hunger feelings.  Not always but sometimes.  Unfortunately, not everyone loses hunger after surgery.  It sucks but it happens.  Just thing about it this way, that'll make it way easier on you for maintenance when people (like me) who haven't had to deal with it suddenly start to get it back.

Sorry it's been so rough on you.  Clear liquids with no protein shakes or anything like that is seriously not healthy for two weeks.

When you go under the anesthetic, something happens to your sense of smell. I was smelling peoples' breath from a distant. Know that it goes away.
I started on yogurt drinks with no pieces and that was very good. Hang in there it does get better
