okay so I'm 6 months out from surgery and I'm on my seventh month and I haven't had a single drink since before my pre op diet which was 3 months. so in actuality I have not had a drink in 9 months. now before surgery I really enjoyed having a drink I'm italian so I love wine, I like beer, I have no problem I could put it away until there's no tomorrow it would have no effect on me whatsoever. naturally things have change now and I won't be doing that even if I want to because I don't wanna mess up all the great progress ice made. now I have heard horror stories about people in their first drink in the tolerance for people seem to have alcohol after the surgery and that's what I'm asking about.
tomorrow night I'm going out with some friends to celebrate cinco like I do every year except this year I do want to drink but I want to know what I could be expected. I'm going to test my tolerance tonight I maybe having a beer or even 2 at most while I'm at home so I can see what it does to me versus being out in the public when this happens. I'm just wondering how long was it before you had your first drink and when you did how much could you actually tolerate verses what you use to be able to tolerate? And how did it effect you?

I wish I had never had a drink post op. One of my regrets.

1/2 ****tail had me certifiably drunk. It was crazy.

I was a few months post-op.. I used to drink often, and had a very high tolerance (not really a good thing, but it's true.) You can imagine that after not drinking for some months, plus losing a lot of bodyweight, tolerance goes way down! I now can get quite buzzed off one pour of red wine, two.. too fast=drunk girl!

At parties, I tend to have 2-3oz hard liquor throughout the night or a couple glasses of wine. I sometimes will almost regret the last one, not that I feel sick- just kinda not so great feeling. The experience of drinking like I used to- several shots, throughout the night.. and feel no ill effects- no longer happens. One drink, I feel great.. two, as long as I've went slow and it's been a while or I've nibbled something- feels good.. more than that- I seem to get a half-assed hangoverish feeling, before even hitting the bed. Do not like... I have only had a shot or two a few times since surgery, and quickly realized I have to have a sleeve full of water to do it as it does not feel good! I still sip my tequilla or scotch neat though.. just with water on the side. Take it easy, go slow.. and don't get too distracted and over-drink, your body is no longer used to it.. & have fun!

I can only drink a couple now, whereas I was able to formerly "put it away".  I sip slowly and don't drink anything with carbonation (sweet tea vodka mixed with water is now my drink of choice).  I've gone over the edge by having a third a couple times and it was not pretty.  Go slow and enjoy the company and sip, sip, sip.  I would blow off the beer if I were you and try something a little more sleeve friendly...JMO

As a word of caution. Beer is carbornated? Most plans state cuting out carbonated beverages. Must be a reason.

my first drink after surgery was an ale, i sipped it out of a double shot glass. I was buzzed but could tolerate it. I would drink slow. Dont think you can drink, eat some crackers and drink some more. Whatever you drink will probably stick with you for much longer than before. a glass of wine will probably get you very drunk because not only do you have a smaller stoma*****reased acid but you also have not had anything for awhile. i dont think you will have too many side effects other than having to sip slower than before and not as much.

Have fun!!!

I waited about 6 months before drinking the first time.  I strongly suggest staying away from carbonated drinks.  They will make your little tummy VERY uncomfortable.  I stick to hard liquor.  My favorite drink is coconut rum in diet cranberry juice and a splash of orange juice!
