Quantities of food at a meal
I'm 3 1/2 weeks since my sleeve and I'm wondering if I'm (still) eating too much at one time. I know I shouldn't compare myself to others but I can drink an EAS 11 oz shake in less than 1/2 hour; have 12 oz of beef veggie soup, and 4-6 oz of meat loaf... I have never vomited or even close to it but I do feel a pressure and some burping if I've eaten too much. I do pretty well with the water and protein but I'm concerned that my portions are still too big - at 3 1/2 weeks out. What do you all think?

I think u will know when u overfill your new tummy. I would not worry too much. At the end of the day it is calories in vs calories out. Your ability to drink the shake in 1/2 hour is an advantage. It is so important to stay hydrated. Best of luck
Btw. I am 5'2" and 4 mos out, had 34fr bougie and can eat about 2 oz meatloaf at a meal. My restriction varies.

That does seem like a lot of meatloaf at one sitting only 3.5 weeks out. The shake in 30 minutes is no big deal. Many of the vets suggest undereating our capacity....do you feel satisified with less? Or maybe break that amount into two seperate meals? I only measured out soups at about 1 cup or 8 oz the first month or so.
I couldnt even eat solids until 6 weeks - no way I could have eaten 4-6 oz of meat at 3.5 weeks. Even now, it would take me an extended meal to get 4-6 oz of meat in. Im not sure ive ever even tried to eat that much.
You are still healing - you need to check with your doc about portion sizes to protect your new staple lines but id suggest limiting portions to 1-2 oz max right now.

Nothing sounds out of place except the meat loaf. I was not allowed "regular food" until 6 weeks out, mushies until then. Are you weighing your food? The first time I had a hamburger patty I thought it was 4 oz. People on here told me it was too much. So, I went and bought a scale and weighed my next patty. I had actually only had 1.5 oz, not 4.......there was no way I could have had 4oz, so maybe you were eyeballing it and guessed you had that much???

I think it's wonderful that you feel great and can intake withough discomfort. I guess you are like me, i had my surgery about a week ago and i have had 0 nausea and 0- paing, just bloatedness.
Now according to my doc, my nutritionist and to the bariatric coordinator i am working with my diet is as follows.
2-3 days if clear liquids
3 weeks of full liquids
2-3 weeks of soft/mechanical soft diet. (pureed food, soft foods, stuff like that)
I don't think meat loaf is a good idea. Everything else sounds great, you are probably just a few of those people i have encountered that has had a good experience with the surgery as far as the pain and nausea go.

My dietician said to start with 1/4 cup, at 4 weeks, then 1/2 cup at 8 weeks, then 1 cup there after. I could not eat a McD's little burger even at 16 weeks. So, I can not imagine that eating 4-6 oz I could not eat that much. Beef veggie soup also is not what was on my list. Cream soups strained because the liquid of the beef veggie soup fills up the stomach. I can bearly drink a EAS shake at 20 mos post op. Do you drink your 64 oz water?
At this point you need to be concerned about not getting a leak. 4-6 oz of food is 2-3 times the amount of what should be going into your stomach.
Later on you can worry about whether your portion sizes are too big or small compared when it comes to weight loss and calories and protein and whatnot. Right now you should be focusing on not trying to hurt yourself in a major way.
I also believe there is a limit on how fast people should be consuming liquids early out.

I am 7 weeks out and no way I could eat 4-6 oz meatloaf or 12 oz veg beef soup at one setting. I can only eat 1/4 cup of meat or 1/3 cup of soup with meat and veggies.
The liquids and shakes go straight through, so that isn't surprising, but that much soup or meat loaf is really surprising.
