Has anyone heard of a person's staple line bursting open a year after the surgery?

By the time you are three months out the staple line should be scarred over and stronger than the original issue.  The staples are just there to hold it together during the healing process.

I have heard of it happening, but never at a year out. If it's gonna happen, it'll be in the first couple of months when the staple line is freshest, and even then if you're following your surgeon's instructions, it's not very likely. If at all.

Everybody worries about the staple line. Have you seen the videos of the actual surgery? You can clearly see there's like 3-4 rows of little titanium staples. It's very secure and indeed looks stronger than any other part of your stomach.

No....I do not think it would be possible.  I have been told by my surgeon that the staple line would be healed over by 3-4 months and would actually be STRONGER than the original stomach tissue.

Your sleeve is such a high pressure "tube" structure that at a certain point (after its healed) it will not expand anymore and food/liquid will just come right back up your esophagus.  That would happen before your stomach burst.  Now....in the first month....its definitely possible to burst the staple line.

Thanks everyone, I didn't think so and I had not seen anything on here about it either.  But and here is the big But my brother said he knew a person who after a year it happened to.  I am thinking something else happened and he has it confused; or they called it the wrong thing.  Thanks again have a great day everyone!

According to the surgeons I've talked to the stomach heals and is as stong as normal. I know the uterus, when cut doesn't heal as strong espec. if cut vertically. But its different kinds of muscle tissue make up.
