THIS IS REALLY MESSING WITH MY HEAD

I am not an engineer, but I weigh daily.  Oh hell, I sometimes weigh several times a day.  Not obsessing over weight, though it would seem so.  I do the same when I'm fat/gaining.  I'm just curious.  The scale is there.  I weigh.

But every morning when I first wake up (after I relieve myself, of course, don't want those extra ounces showing up) I strip down and weigh myself.

So I won't be telling you to step away from the scale.

So, we all know that there probably isn't anything you can do to speed up your stall.

But is there anything you can do different just to make yourself feel proactive?  Are you stuck in a rut with food choices?  Can you eat a different breakfast, lunch and dinner, try some stuff that is new without going over your caloric allowance?  Or maybe bump it up 100 calories?  Even at 700 calories, you should still be losing.  There may not be such a thing as starvation mode, but your body might respond to a bit of a shake-up?

[I'm not gaining weight. I keep lowering my goal!] [I LOVE MY SLEEVE!]

You got a lifetime to lose the rest. Just focus on at least maintaining what you got and your body will pick the number it decides to settle on. I feel your pain. Awesome weight loss there buddy.

First of all, I missed that you were an engineer, too!  I nearly snorted out my apple tea through the nose at the load cell comment.  I come from a family of engineers.  You know that saying, how in the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king?  My brother says in the land of engineers, it's the one that can look you in the eye while you're having a conversation.

Second, since you mentioned AA and sponsors, here's what mine would have told me (OA, that is).  The scale is not your higher power.  Giving so much power to the scale is counterproductive and part of our screwed up thinking.  We have food problems, not weight problems.  It's like someone who's quit smoking judging his success by whether he coughs today or not.  I had a sponsor tell me once that it wasn't any of her business how much she weighed, but she was hard core!  And full of recovery.  Hmm....

Wow, Happy, that's so good!  I love every post you have ever made!

I get caught up in that damn scale thing sometimes.  I have to force myself to just weigh once in the morning.  If I keep doing it over and over, then it starts to change.  Then I start weighing on my mom's scale over and over.  That one is always higher and after a few times, THAT one will change too.

I don't know why I keep weighing over and over.  It's not going to get any better.  By the same token, if I eat something that I normally like, like cake, and it doesn't taste right, then I keep eating it trying to figure out why it isn't right.  It's never going to get any better, but I keep eating it.  I even do this with the refrigerator.  Ever stand in front of the fridge, not find anything, close the door, then go back and repeat the same thing 5 minutes later?

Sigh....

Thank you.  I'm just trying to pass on what other people told me!  I didn't make this stuff up, that's for sure!

As for standing in front of the fridge every five minutes, of course I have!!  That's why they call it compulsive behavior.

I think weighing once in the morning is a very good thing.  I always say "Science. Experiment" before I step on the scale, to try to detach a little bit.  It's just data, but not the most important.  As an engineer, I can tell you that collecting data really frequently when it varies so much won't help you really understand a lot, except "wow, my weight sure varies a lot throughout the day."

Hugs!!

That really hit the nail on the head. My husband asked me why I weigh myself every morning if my weight fluctuates a little. I told him that by weighing myself every day I am just collecting data and it turns it from a traumatic event to just an every day routine. I work in accounting so I guess to me I am just doing number evaluations, debits & credits. I had gained 1.7 lbs last week although I hadn't changed anything in my routine other than added a little more strength training. By looking at it in a more detached manner I was able to just let it go and keep on going.  Four months ago I would have been bawling and calling my Momma.

Im so sorry your having this issue. And I know your already doing everything correctly. So, I will say this, (because I too am impatient).  Just breathe, and remember from where you have come my friend.

You already know your doing this right, so reflect on the valley's you have been through, and the mountain tops you have climbed. Remember all your NSV and the accomplishments, and the way your life has changed.

The scale will show what you want it to when its ready. As for now continue this journey.

I hope this helped, because you help me all the time.
