NSV: Running

Well, I have been training for the LA Rock & Roll half marathon ever since I signed up to do it about six weeks ago. I started off running my usual 4 miles 3 days a week. I progressed to 6 miles 3-4 days a week. Yesterday, my friend and I ran 10 freaking miles in 1 hour and 50 minutes. I am so ready for this 1/2 marathon. 8 months ago I could not run for 30 seconds and here I ran for almost 2 hours non-stop. Getting the sleeve was one of the best things I ever done for myself. The sleeve has open up a whole new world for me and I love it. Thanks to my family and friends here on OH for all your encouragement.

How far is a half marathon?

Great job on the ten miles! I'm nursing a foot injury right now, but before I took a break from running I was proud of my three minutes that I could jog haha! I couldn't imagine keeping it going for that long, although it would be awesome to be able to do that one day.

A half marathon is 13.1 miles. I never thought I could run for that long either, but I have learned to not say "NEVER". Who knows, when your foot heals and you are back to running, maybe you will be out there running and training for a 5k (3.2 miles).

I would love to work my way up to a 5k!  In fact, I was going c25k training before I hurt my foot.  I'm going to find a running store to go to and make sure I'm wearing the right shoes before I get back out there.  I don't think my shoes caused the problem (not the current pair anyways- I had lost a bunch of weight in my feet and my ankle rolled because the pair before these were too big, and now I keep reinjuring that foot).  I can't wait to be cleared to jog again so I can get back to work.

Having the right shoes is extremely important when you run. Well I hope you get back to your c25k training soon, good luck and may you have a speedy recovery.

Very impressive Mike! I started running a few weeks ago myself. I am only up to 3 miles in 30 minutes right now but my hoal is to run the Boston Marathon in a couple of years. Great job and keep it up!

That's awesome!
I am envious! Running is off limits to me because of joint issues, but I sure would like to try...Sigh....

Yay Mike!  Good to go!  Is this the half marathon that some of the group was discussing walking at the last meetup?
