Hey guys! My surgery is on Thursday and thought I would ask if any if you fought insulin-dependant diabetes for a long period of time and what your diabetic needs were after surgery.

Are you type 1 or 2?  I'm type 2, used to be on 480 units of insulin a day.  Came off insulin after about 18 months annd have stayed off it so far.  Sleep apnoea also gone and still losing weight, although it's now a struggle!

I was a type 2 diabetic before surgery.  I was on 120 units of levemir a day, metformin, januvia, and victoza.  My A1C was still 10%.

1 week after surgery - no meds at all.

3 months after surgery - A1C 5%.

Sleeve and following the high protein, low carb program kicked the **** out of my diabetes.

I was a recently dx'ed type 2 and was only on metformin prior to surgery. I got my first (and hopefully last) dose ever of insulin post op when my bg went up to 306! Then since the following morning it has been normal, normal and normal. I am no longer taking the metformin. Can't wait for the A1c in 3 months.
